The breaks of Roy’s crimson Cadillac whined to a halt, pulling smoothly into the parking lot. Tugging his keys out of the ignition and pocketing them with a bloodstained hand, a grimace was upon his features. This was certainly a fine day he was having. Of all things, he didn’t expect to be visiting Central Morgue at 3:00 in the fucking morning. Shaking his head at his current decision, he willed himself to get out of the car, but had to lean against the door to steady himself for a moment. Blue eyes glanced down at the driver’s seat and a brief smirk returned despite his pain. Miraculously, he’d somehow managed to avoid staining his car with red. Thank god for that…
There were plenty of other places he could have gone at this ridiculous hour, but his own selfish pride had prevented him from driving himself to the nearest hospital. Well, that… and he didn’t trust doctors as far as he could throw them… not to mention the fact that a late-night trip to the Emergency Room would result in loads of paperwork.
And if there was one thing Roy hated, it was paperwork. Especially after hours.
So what did he do? He dragged himself, bloody and exhausted, to the Coroner’s office, of all things. Roy had a pretty good feeling that the good "doctor" would be able to spare a few minutes out of his nocturnal schedule to lend a hand. His main patients were corpses, after all, and corpses didn’t mind if they were kept waiting...
And so, with a limp in his step, Roy walked across the parking lot and through the front door... the entrance to the underworld.
