Run, Rabbit, Run — For Now
TW: Religious abuse, Obsessive behaviour, stalking
Run, rabbit… run, run, run…
Funny, isn’t it?
They sing it to children, never stopping to hear what it really says.
A nursery rhyme? No.
It’s a prophecy.
A promise.
Bang, bang, bang — goes the farmer’s gun.
I’ve known that song my whole life.
Long before I wore the collar.
Long before I stood behind the altar and spoke of peace with folded hands and a steady smile, I used to hum it when I was alone.
Still do, sometimes.
My little rabbit…
She thinks the veil hides her.
That she’s just another sheep in the flock.
But she’s the only one who matters.
She is the rabbit. My rabbit.
I let her run.
I let her believe.
Because the song isn’t about the escape —
it’s about the inevitability.
She twitches when I’m near.
She doesn’t know why.
Not yet. But some part of her does. That stirring under her ribs? That’s not fear.
That’s recognition!
The soul remembering what the flesh tries to forget. Oh but I will remind her.
She was made for this.
For me.
Her resistance is not disobedience, it’s ritual.
Part of the shape.
Part of the song.
Run, rabbit… run, run, run…
How far can she go, really?
These halls bend back to me.
Her shadow answers to mine.
Her heartbeat writes my name.
Let her run through pews and candlelight.
Let her pray to silence and try to outpace the echo.
It won’t matter. It never really did.
I do not chase out of need.
I chase because the song demands it. Its just how it is, simple as that.
And when it ends — when her legs fail, when her mouth forgets God’s name and remembers mine
Calm. Smiling.
The hunter. The farmer. The Sheperd. The hand she was made to kneel beneath.
Bang, bang, bang…
That’s not the sound of a gun.
That’s the sound of fate knocking!
Oh, my little rabbit… I’ll wait, for a while. But don’t make me wait too long.
You see, patience is a virtue I wear like a borrowed coat. It fits… until it doesn’t.
