The Traveller's Bane (Lumine Villain Arc)

Lumine sent a silent plea to the archons that it would not be another errand. The woman standing in front of her, her gaze fixated on her fidgeting fingers. Jean and Kaeya lingered close by, likely making small talk while keeping careful watch on anything that happens next with the woman and her's interactions. "Please." Paimon clung to her arm as support. "Traveller.. You're the only one who can help me." The young mondstadtian woman looked at Lumine pleadingly. A feeling of dread and anguish curled up around Lumine's heart.

"NO."

Enough of these errands. Enough of the false promises, white lies, refusals. Paimon shot a glance at her worriedly. "Traveller? Will you he--"

She snapped. Paimon quickly let go of her arm and hovered around her. "L-Lumine!" She couldn't take it. She couldn't help it. Help. Oh how she despised that word. This world, Teyvat, it did nothing. They did nothing but push her around, telling her to help them. Help.

She just can't care anymore. This was enough. Enough to send her over the edge. "Lumine!" Paimon's voice was muffled in her ears as she got up, her eyes filled with anguish and anger. "ENOUGH." Her voice felt so far away, as if it wasn't her own. "Lumine, calm down!"

The woman practically curled up into a ball in front of her. To her, she probably felt offended. Offended that the nice little traveller who did so much already would not help her with her nice little errand. Lumine was finally pushed off the edge.

She laughed. "Lumine." Jean slowly approached her. What does she know? Jean asked for her to run errands too. Kaeya talked to the woman, asking her to tell him of her situation instead. "You know, when I arrived on Teyvat, I was already hurting from the loss of my brother."

"Lumine snap out of it!" She felt Paimon grip her arm tightly. Lumine shook her off, sending Paimon reeling back. "Uwah!" If this were a legend of old or a tale from Lisa's library, Lumine would be deemed the villain, would transform into some monstrosity maybe, as corny as it sounded.

"But then, in order to get information and find him, I find that I have to save entire cities. Countries. I've travelled to nearly every corner of Teyvat for him." Lumine unsheathed her sword. It was black, with a glowing, pulsing amethyst coloured gem in its center. "Lumine wait! That's the Festering Desire! You're being cor--"

She silenced Jean by pointing it at her. "My mind is as clear as ever." Lumine grimaced. "I'm simply choosing to have enough."

"You have done nothing." Jean's eyes shone with pity and sadness. "Lumine, please, I don't want to fight a friend." A friend? Jean thought she was a FRIEND?

"I spent days, MONTHS even. I saved Mondstadt from Stormterror. I brought down a fatui harbinger. Hell, I've defeated Osial, a GOD. Not only that but I've defeated hundreds of hilichurl camps, delivered parcels, ran errands, even cleaning the church--"

Lumine had to stop herself. If this world was useless, she'll find the next one. She'll get stronger, she'll do anything. But this won't go anywhere. She sighed.

Tears streamed down her face. All she wanted to do was hug her brother one more time. She wanted to fight alongside him. Travel with him once more.

Unknowingly, a desire festered in her, the sword in her hands pulsing.

She'll even kill to get her brother back.

She WILL get her brother back.

So in this au, Lumine's purification is through absorbing and transferring it to herself and she mostly does it passively/subconsciously (based on how they were surprised to find dvalin's tear purified).

So lumine has been (passively) absorbing corruption from so many occasions especially while in inazuma, the chasm, sumeru, and that place with upside down venti.

For Xiao, he feels calmer/free-er in her presence, because she's passively absorbing his karma. But because he's lived so long and accumulated so much, there's still a lot.

So he still does get attacks from his karma (like that one video mhy posted on yt) and I imagine lumine catching him in some and then actively purifying him (which means she gets to take on more corruption than she does passively)

I also think because lumine is getting more frustrated and angrier during her journey, it gets easier for the corruption to affect her (this girl is a pro at bottling up emotions pls make her stop).

Anyway, I think she does get corrupted away from Xiao's presence, she either flees knowing its affecting her or she thinks she's fine and proceeds on her journey until she gets consumed by the karma and other corruptions where she becomes a threat to Teyvat and so he finds her.
