Say thanks to Olalla boys!-Spindle Brownie
By the time the sun was getting ready to set, Patton was clearly exhausted. He had stopped swimming to sit in the water and say goodbye to the frogs while Logan and Roman worked on getting the van organized. Some clothing was still slightly damp even though they’d set them out in the sun through the afternoon and the heavier blanket they usually used while sleeping was still half soaked. They hung the clothes around the inside of the van, and Logan decided to test out how leaving things on the roof while driving would work since Thomas seemed to be able to manipulate things on the roof, so he carefully fastened the thick blanket onto the top. They’d managed to get the sheets mostly dry and they had spare blankets, so Roman made them a bed. He figured Patton would be climbing right into it considering the way his eyelashes were fluttering as he held Chicken in his hands.
Olalla resurfaced for the first time since Roman had given her the picture when Logan told Patton it was time to leave. “Don’t forget to thank Olalla,” Logan reminded.
Patton nodded even as he rubbed his eyes sleepily. Roman expected him to just give a wave and smile since he didn’t know her well, but he surprised Roman by saying, “Thank you, Olalla. Take good care of Chicken.” As he said it, he gave Chicken one last pat to the head before letting him lose to go jump back into the water with Olalla and the other frogs.
“I will,” she said with a smile and then turned to Roman. “I have a gift for you,” she said.
Roman blinked in surprise. “Oh,” he said looking at Logan in a panic. There were different ways to accept gifts from different mythical creatures, but Roman had not heard much about getting gifts from aloja. Logan didn’t cut in, so he clearly had no idea what to do either. “Uh,” he said eloquently.
She pulled a large hand woven cylindrical basket with a lid out of the water. Not knowing what else to do, Roman grabbed the handles near the lid and took it. It was heavy. Really heavy.
“Thanks,” he stammered. “I don’t know...”
“It’s fine,” she waved him off.
“Thank you,” he said more firmly despite still not knowing what it was exactly.
She must have read the confusion on his face because she smiled. “It’s water,” she said.
“But...” Roman said, “you’re rules say.”
She shrugged. “The world is different at the moment. Besides,” her eyes cut to Patton. “You have a young one with you.”
Roman was honestly stunned into silence. Perhaps there were other cases of aloja of her rank breaking their rules for humans, but Roman had certainly never heard of them.
“Thank you,” Logan said for him. “It is very much appreciated.”
She nodded. “Keep the container,” she instructed. “It will never spill, will clean any water put into it, and will keep it fresh. Also those with a connection to me or my family should recognize the symbols on it.” That was... a lot.
“This is an incredible gift,” Roman said. “I wish I had an idea of how to thank you for it.”
“That gift is a thank you,” she said. “for the picture.” Roman again did not know what to say and apparently neither did Logan because he didn’t speak.
“Thanks!” Patton ironically was the one to say.
“Have safe travels,” she said and then disappeared back into the water.
There was a moment’s pause before Roman realized his arms were shaking under the weight of the water. “I’m going to need a little help getting this back to the van, Specs,” he said. Logan nodded and came over to help him. They ended up with a handle each and struggled to get it into the van, but they managed it. They shoved it in the corner next to the mini fridge as Thomas started up the van. It just barely fit.
Logan grabbed some bungie cords from the storage area under the permanently down seat and they carefully secured it so it wouldn’t be jostled by the van moving. When that was finished, Logan glanced over at Patton and laughed softly. “I think it might be someone’s bedtime,” he said.
“No,” Patton pouted even though he’d already curled up with Barnaby under the spare blanket they’d put on the bed.
“No?” Logan asked skeptically. Patton made grabby hands at them both. “I see.”
They both gave into Patton’s demands easily. After all, they were tired as well and couldn’t even go sit in the seats since they were all covered in drying clothes. Patton, despite his insistence that he was not going to bed, was out within minutes.
Logan chuckled when he noticed, shooting a grin at Roman over Patton’s head. Roman could almost feel Thomas's amusement as well as Patton's glasses slipped off his face and settled on top of the mini-fridge.
Roman thought about the day they'd had and the things he'd learned about the strange creatures running rampant. The world was pretty scary right now, but they apparently had a haunted van on their side somehow and more drinking water than they'd expected because Olalla had been willing to break her own rules for kindness. Maybe they had a bit of a chance in this world.

Thomas, you doing okay buddy?
Thomas gave a sigh of relief (or well he didn’t... he gave a mental sigh of relief) when he felt Logan finally slipped off to sleep. Was feeling when someone went to sleep something ghosts could do? He guessed it must be.
Now with all three children asleep, Thomas actually had some time to himself to think. He kept part of his mind on the road, but there weren’t any cars to deal with and it was a lot easier to drive a car when you kind of... were it? So, he didn’t have to pay much attention to driving. He didn’t exactly know what to make of this all. It was still all so strange. He was a ghost, at least that’s what the three children in the car said, and it made sense, but Thomas couldn’t quite remember dying. Maybe it would come back to him or maybe that was just how it worked. Thomas didn’t know.
Logan stirred a bit when the song on the radio changed and Thomas quickly switched it to something softer without thinking about it. He really did not want Logan to wake up. The poor thing was terrified and Thomas really couldn’t do much about it. He hadn’t quite figured out how to consistently communicate with the alive people in his van yet. Logan crying and begging for his life and the lives of those in the back made Thomas’s stomach feel queasy even though he didn’t have a stomach anymore. He wished he could do something more to help him feel better, but even when he seemed to understand Thomas’s intentions, he didn’t seem to believe them. Thomas would just have to show him he wasn’t dangerous despite being a ghost.
At least Patton seemed comfortable around him. He and the boy he’d introduced as Roman had tried to talk with him all day. Thomas had done his best to respond and, while Patton seemed to understand most things he tried to say, Roman usually just seemed confused. Hopefully they’d be able to figure out some better method of communication, but for now, Thomas thought they all probably needed some sleep.

Oh oh story time!!! What story are we reading? Do you know the story of the green man??
- cycleman fairy
“What story would you like me to read?” Logan asked.
Patton hummed and reached forward to start flipping through the book. He was pretty familiar with this book by now since Logan had read stories from it to him before. He didn’t know it nearly as well as Logan did, though. His eyes caught on one called “The Ghost of Lion Bay” which Logan had never read to him before. He stopped and pointed.
Logan shifted awkwardly behind him. “Perhaps not that one,” he said, reaching forward and flipping past it.
Patton turned to frown at him.
“It gets a bit... dark,” Logan explained. “Maybe something lighter.” Patton still frowned because Logan was going to let him pick and then didn’t read what Patton asked. Patton allowed him to keep flipping through the book though. A sad story about ghosts probably wasn’t good to read in front of Thomas, especially when Thomas might not know he was a ghost and Logan didn’t know Thomas was around yet. Patton once again brushed away the thought to tell Logan about Thomas. He wanted to talk to Thomas about it alone a bit first.
Patton stopped Logan on a story that he recognized about a puppy who went on an adventure to find a family. It started out a bit sad, but then was happy at the end. Hopefully that one was okay. He looked up at Logan with a pleading expression and Logan smiled softly down at him.
“That’s a good one, Pat,” he said, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. Patton relaxed back into him as he began to read.
((I do vaguely know the story of the green man, but I didn’t want to use it here. I will make a note of it and maybe incorporate it later.))

And here’s Summer, Corvid, and Pastel! We have all four seasons now :D
I tried to base Pastel Pixie’s design off the profile picture, hope I succeeded in conveying that
Adriana: I adore them all!! I didn’t even notice we had all four seasons, lol.
Yaaay shopping! Ok so, cotton balls for nesting material so we don't have to steal fabric from the humans, some cloth and buttons for our own clothes and walls and tables and stuff, some thumb tacks or tape to hold it all together, and maybe some thumb tacks for seats and maybe weapons so we can try and fend off the strange creatures? -Corvid Sprite
((Quite the shopping list! Have fun hanging out in the clothing section and then in the cleaning supply/medicine aile. You see nothing amiss in either part, but it still smells pretty bad.))
Can I sleep in a cup holder? -Corvid Sprite
((Sure. There is one in the backseat off to the side that they'll never use anyway because its next to the seat thats going to be permanently down. So have at it!))
