So, Thanatos had finally decided to take a vacation. Which would have been great at any other time. Honestly, the guy deserved it, and it wasn't like Hades could turn him down-business partners and good acquaintance for ages and all-. But with the way the mortal population had exploded over the past couple of centuries, well...The Lord of the Dead hadn't been up to his flames in this much work even when the Underworld had been getting souls by the boatload. Often literally.
No matter what the faith, death was universal. And with the number of frail, fleshy humans running around these days, that meant every 'reaper' on deck. Seriously. Even the Babylonian entities had gotten pulled out of retirement. Kinda sad, when the new blood had to lean on the ancient for help. Eh, work was work. The job wasn't even that hard, really. Check the list, go there, send the chumps up, down, into the reincarnation cycle or just poof, out of existence. Yeah, slight hitch with that. They whined, begged, wept, tried to stay on as ghosts. Some even mouthed off. No respect. And no brains apparently. Certainly didn't help that tolerance had never been his strong suite.
Like now. Standing over a pile of corpses, clipboard in hand and turning redder by the second. the way things were going, the ill-tempered Lord of the Underworld was about to light up the whole neighbourhood -shouldn't have left the Helm of Darkness at home, but there wasn't time to go and get it now-. Not like he cared if he was seen anyway. They couldn't do any worse than the Titans.
"Look wiseguys, I get it. You're tough. Now GET IN THE DAMN HOLE or your afterlife's gonna look peachy next to what I dish out.Already had to deal with a train wreck today. Crying kids are harder to move than a sleepin' Cyclops." Hades snapped, jabbing a finger insistently in the direction of the portal he'd just opened, red and lined with rocks that resembled broken, jagged teeth. "Hey, don't look at me. I don't choose where you go. Be honest though, are ya really surprised? 'Cuz I've seen your rapsheets." That was met with more rudeness and even a wad of spiritual spit in his direction. "Alright, that's IT!" Closing and reopening another 'highway' to Hell behind the group of disgruntled dead guys, he let loose and blasted them in, taking no small amount of satisfaction from the screams that resulted. "Sayonara, schmucks. Say hi to the guy with the horns for me." Ah, now that felt better.
