Blatantly Partisan Party Review VII (federal 2019): Australian Conservatives
Prior reviews: NSW 2019
Running where: all six states, but not in the territories.
What I said before: “Australian Conservatives is the party we never needed, comprised of some of the most disgusting people in Australian politics. It is the party founded by federal senator Cory Bernardi when he left the Liberals, and in the forthcoming federal election the lead candidate in Queensland will be Lyle Shelton of ‘eat shit Lyle’ fame.”
What I think this year: Let’s hope these bilious disagreeable people and their miserable party soon collapse in a heap and that after Cory Bernardi’s current term in the Senate expires in 2022 we never hear a thing from them ever again. Australian politics would be much better off without the hateful and self-interested bigotry that emanates from this party, the sort of policies designed with suspicion of anyone who is not a white Christian male and without reckoning on long-term consequences for social harmony or environmental stability.
It is, in fact, hard to figure out what they want to “conserve” in any broad ideological sense. They are people who cannot adjust to new information (such as deepened scientific knowledge), to change (such as new industries replacing old ones), or to difference and the acceptance of difference (such as LGBTI and Muslim people now being prominent in society). They are the people who just want everything to be exactly how it was when they were first children and became aware of the community around them, and assume any change upon that is inherently bad. We will have these fuckos in 2059 trying to enforce 2019 morality too—just remember, don’t be 2059’s Cory.
Flush this party away. Eat shit Lyle. Chew poo Cory.
My recommendation: Give this party a weak or no preference.

So a primary school in South Australia did a 'Do It In A Dress' day as a fundraiser to raise awareness and money for girls in Africa who cannot go to school.
An arse senator named Cory Bernardi made a misogynist comment about 'gender morphing'.
in backlash, Australians poured in donations to the schools fundraiser and they managed to raise nearly $300,000 for their cause (keep in mind their original goal was only $900) and that makes me happy

Actually, Penny Wong kind of said it all:
It is never enough. No matter how much you bend, how many times you sell your soul to the hard right of the party, no matter how often you betray everything you have ever stood for, it is never enough. That is what Senator Bernardi today has demonstrated. For every concession another will be demanded and when you cave in on that, they will just ask for another and when you cave in on that, another will be demanded of you.
Blatantly Partisan Party Review III (NSW 2019): Australian Conservatives
Prior reviews: none, this is a new party.
Australian Conservatives is the party we never needed, comprised of some of the most disgusting people in Australian politics. It is the party founded by federal senator Cory Bernardi when he left the Liberals, and in the forthcoming federal election the lead candidate in Queensland will be Lyle Shelton of “eat shit Lyle” fame.
Right now I’m here to talk about the NSW state election, where the Conservative ticket is led by Greg Walsh. This particular character got a ringing endorsement from the worst unit in Australian politics, dirty polo shirt wearer Mark Latham (a rival candidate at this election!), which is probably all you need to know. Walsh is the sort of chap very concerned that religious schools might be forced to grant the most basic respect to transgender students by letting them wear the uniform of their choice and by not using their dead name.
You know what you are getting with the Australian Conservatives. It’s the usual wank about “free speech” (for themselves and no-one else), climate denialism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, unhelpful draconian drug policy, etc., etc. Parties like this provide a semi-respectable veneer for the extremist bigots that Australia cannot seem to moderate or contain.
The Conservatives also have a boner for coal, and their claims to being “technology agnostic” are undone by both this and their advocacy for nuclear power. Their incoherent vision for education would basically replace critical thinking with propaganda for some mythical take on “Western civilisation”. Their website does not appear to have any specific platform for the NSW state election, but it’s no question that a Conservative state MP would be detrimental for NSW, especially for minorities and vulnerable people.
Put the Australian Conservatives in the bin.

But, LOL that the Coalition have capitulated again and again to try to keep Bernardi and his ilk in line (by selling out LGBTQ people and action on climate change and basically any attempt to be moderate as opposed to far right conservative), and that still hasn’t been enough to keep him from walking out on them.
