[The name of this monster is a complex pun. A coryphée is the leader of a ballet troupe, and Coryphodon was a prehistoric mammal. Before 1905 and the first mounted Brontosaurus skeleton, paleo-mammals and marine reptiles were more popular in the public consciousness than dinosaurs, and several undisguised versions of them appear in various McDougall stories. On top of that, there’s a rhyme. The coryphees stalk the forests of Siam, so they are, of course, Siamese Coryphees.]

Coryphee CR 2 NE Magical Beast This creature looks mostly like a dog, but its head is nearly half the size of its body, held on a thin, flexible neck. Its tail is short and curled like that of a spitz.

Coryphees are sometimes called “dancing dogs”. They more closely resemble domestic dogs than wolves, but they are still wild creatures. Their epithet comes from their surprisingly graceful movements, which carry them through hazardous terrain and provide them with protection from attacks. The bite of a coryphee hits with the force of a maul, and they often devour their prey bones and all.

A coryphee is just intelligent enough to be evil, and they enjoy attacking weaker or more frightened prey over other possible targets. They sometimes cooperate with monstrous humanoids such as gnolls or charau-ka, but are likely to turn on and eat these allies if the situation sours. They have no interest in material treasure, but do have a fondness for music.

It gains a +2 dodge bonus to its AC, but suffers a -2 penalty to attack rolls while in this stance. It may shift out of this stance as another swift action. This dodge bonus stacks with other dodge bonuses, such as from the Dodge feat or fighting defensively.
