I've yet to find a Vitamin C serum that I love, but I have been searching earnestly for a while now! One of my beauty pet peeves is when Vitamin C serums oxidize (react with oxygen and then turn brown) within a few months of opening and becoming completely useless. This is an issue with serums containing L-Ascorbic Acid, which is pure Vitamin C. I've recently become more interested in Vit C crystals that you mix with other products in your routine. Sounds so easy and you don't have to worry about your Vitamin C serum oxidizing in 3 months since you make it fresh for each use. I've never tried a product like that before, so when I saw the Cosmedix Vitamin C Mixing Crystals ($54 for 0.2 oz) on Octoly, I was excited to try this for myself! ___________________________ When I first got this, I was mixing it with hyaluronic serums and lotions, but the pH wasn't quite right. I read that the ideal pH for this type of Vitamin C to be most effective is a pH of 3.5 or less. After playing around with more product mixing, I just started mixing it with water to get to 3.5. But, it stung pretty badly and left my face pink with irritation. I need to mention that I was a terrible chemistry student and nothing has changed, lol, so maybe this type of thing is not really for me. I was frustrated and figured I was doing something wrong. It surprised me that there was very little instruction for usage, just "Mix crystals (a few shakes) with your favorite serums or moisturizers." I need more guidance than just "a few shakes", TBH. So, who knows, maybe I was adding too much? I used fewer shakes of crystals, but I still got the stinging sensation. I stopped using it since it just became too time consuming to attempt bathroom beauty chemistry every day. Although I've put it aside for now, I may give it another try after reading more on DIY techniques. _______________________ Thanks @cosmedix_ and @octolyus for the chance to try this product! It didn't work out the way I'd hoped, but I do like the brand's Brightening Bamboo Mask and would love to try more from the line . . . #octolyfamily #cosmedix #littlebitofglowreview #honestreview #beautyreview #skincare #skincarereview
