There is much to be learned from beasts.
After a two month summer hiatus. COTNC is back worshipping album and cover artwork of “On the Verge of Nothing” from the danish band “The Sledge”.
REZN unleash debut album Let It Burn
Chicago-based band REZN might be new to the scene, but they’ve already begun establishing themselves for their atmospheric performances and self-described brand of “cosmic doom.” The band just unleashed their debut album fittingly titled Let It Burn, which was mastered by Dennis Pleckham of Bongripper at Comatose Studios. The album is ambitious, consisting of 10 tracks and clocking in at nearly an hour in length. Stylistically, it meshes doom with elements of stoner rock and sludge in a way that is often downright groovy.
The album starts off with ‘Relax,’ which puts the listener in a trance-like state with echo-y vocals layered over heavy, fuzzed out bass parts. At times the band sounds distinctly psychedelic as on ‘Rezurrection,’ which features sitar, an unusual choice that dramatically enhances the eerie, mystical feel of the song. At other moments, take ‘Harvest the Void’ for example, the sound is grungier with drawling vocals and slowly cruising drum beats.
Unlike many bands in the doom genre, REZN displays a much welcome sense of humor about what they do. Take ‘The Creature,’ for instance, which starts off with a creepy voice saying: “When the body becomes a soulless vessel, only the creature shall remain.” But underneath the occult imagery and stoner persona, there’s serious musical talent. Let It Burn is impeccably thought-out, providing the listener with variety without deviating from the central idea.
REZN’s album release show is tonight at the Empty Bottle with Disrotted, Blunt and Bottomed supporting and it will be sure to take you to higher plane of existence (pun intended). In the meantime, you can give Let It Burn a listen here.
In the spirit of Spiderverse highlighting the 2099 timeline, I’ve decided to pay attention to my own 2099 OCs!
Vee is the great-granddaughter of Doom and Grace, and lives in Nueva York with her mom and grandma (whom I have yet to post about but is coming, I promise). While her mom and grandma didn’t get Cube powers, Vee did, and that leads to some delightful shenanigans in which she runs from both the government and kids at school.
As for Miguel…well, it’s not that Vee’s upset that her mom’s dating him. She’s just upset that her mom’s dating in general.
“…define happy.”
I want what they have.
Ultimate Marvel was fucking wild but I think we can all agree that Doom’s design was fuckin sick
