Space Invaders | Rocket & Carol
After the harrowing events of the registration act and Osborne's vicious reign, Carol was desperate to take time away from the pressures of superhero society on Earth. She felt responsible for a great deal that had occurred and could not face living alongside those she had fought, at least without a large volume of alcohol. Having decided alcohol was no longer a solution, she sought other options and found her usual were not helping. The suggestion of taking time in space to address the growing issues there was too tempting to refuse and within a week she had been packed and ready to leave.
The ship she had been given was equipped with an AI and had generous space, comforts and power. It was also suited to house her infamous cat, Chewie. Despite offerings of hefty compensation, blackmail and even begging, no one would agree to care for him in her absence. He'd only puked in Jess' shoes once and he didn't bite now... as much.
With the ship's data recording tracking her every move, Carol knew she had been gone for over 4 days. It had felt simultaneously shorter and longer than that, feeling as if she had seen the Avengers only yesterday yet she could not visualise anything beyond the endless darkness of space. The scattering of shining stars, varying pieces of space debris and distant planets were a beautiful sight but a lonely one. She was grateful for Harrison (the ship's AI) and Chewie's company though she would never admit how frequently she spoke to the latter considering his only response was the occasional meow.
Roused from her musings by a loud beeping accompanied by a flashing display on the console, she sprung forward to get a more detailed look before she was dazzled by a bright explosion far to her left.
"Well, shit." She muttered, furiously tapping and swiping against the display as she tried to identify the ships intent on destroying each other in this distance. "Alright, what the hell is going on? I thought this area was neutral?!"
