Cosmiccuriosity: 27-question Sorting
Thanks for the analysis! Since you seemed interested, here are my answers to the 27 questions...would love to know if the biased questions really caused the Gryffindor!
Which of the following would you most hate people to call you?
Ignorant - Claw
After you have died, what would you most like people to do when they hear your name?
Ask for more stories about your adventures - Gryff
Given the choice, would you rather invent a potion that would guarantee you:
Wisdom? - Claw
How would you like to be known to history?
The Wise - Claw
3 Claw, 1 Gryff. Basically, you got the 1 question here that would send you Gryff.
You enter an enchanted garden. What would you be most curious to examine first?
The bubbling pool, in the depths of which something luminous is swirling - Slyth (water = Slytherin. On this quiz, water + Merlin + jinx = Slyth)
What kind of instrument most pleases your ear?
The piano - Claw
Four boxes are placed before you. Which would you try and open
.
The gleaming jet black box with a silver lock and key, marked with a mysterious rune that you know to be the mark of Merlin. - Slyth, with the Claw problem I mentioned
Four goblets are placed before you. Which would you choose to drink?
The foaming, frothing, silvery liquid that sparkles as though containing ground diamonds. - Claw
Once every century, the Flutterby bush produces flowers that adapt their scent to attract the unwary. If it lured you, it would smell of:
A crackling log fire - Gryff
So 2 Slyth, 2 Claw, 1 Gryff
A troll has gone berserk in the Headmaster’s study at Hogwarts. It is about to smash, crush and tear several irreplaceable items and treasures, including a cure for dragon pox, which the Headmaster has nearly perfected; student records going back 1000 years and a mysterious handwritten book full of strange runes, believed to have belonged to Merlin. In which order would you rescue these objects from the troll’s club, if you could?
Select order:
1Merlin’s Book 2Dragon Pox Cure 3Student Records
Claw primary, Slyth secondary. This is the #1 option in terms of what gives Ravenclaw points (in practice, every House chooses cure/book/records 1st.)
Which would you rather be:
Trusted? - Huffledor, with the HUGE FREAKING PROBLEM I mentioned.
Which of the following do you find most difficult to deal with?
Boredom - Gryff primary, Slyth secondary.
So 1 Ravenslyth, 1 Gryffinslyth, 1 Huffledor
What are you most looking forward to learning at Hogwarts?
Every area of magic I can - Claw primary, Slyth secondary
If you could have any power, which would you choose?
The power to read minds - Claw primary, Slyth secondary (Slyth secondary is possible - the secondary might be on superstrength, but atm it looks like read minds)
Which of the following would you most like to study?
Centaurs - Claw primary, Gryff secondary, with the problem I mentioned
But all 3 of these go heavily Ravenclaw.
One of your house mates has cheated in a Hogwarts exam by using a Self-Spelling Quill. Now he has come top of the class in Charms, beating you into second place. Professor Flitwick is suspicious of what happened. He draws you to one side after his lesson and asks you whether or not your classmate used a forbidden quill. What do you do?
Tell Professor Flitwick that he ought to ask your classmate (and resolve to tell your classmate that if he doesn’t tell the truth, you will).
Gryffindor
You and two friends need to cross a bridge guarded by a river troll who insists on fighting one of you before he will let all of you pass. Do you:
Volunteer to fight?
Which road tempts you most?
The narrow, dark, lantern-lit alley
Slytherin (and unusual choice!)
Which nightmare would frighten you most?
Standing on top of something very high and realizing suddenly that there are no hand- or footholds, nor any barrier to stop you falling
Ravenclaw, although this has the problem I mentioned (most Claws go for Gryff's eye, most Slyths go for Claw's heights, nobody picks Slytherin)
Late at night, walking alone down the street, you hear a peculiar cry that you believe to have a magical source. Do you:
Withdraw into the shadows to await developments, while mentally reviewing the most appropriate defensive and offensive spells, should trouble occur?
A Muggle confronts you and says that they are sure you are a witch or wizard. Do you:
Agree, and walk away, leaving them to wonder whether you are bluffing?
So 3 Gryff, 2 Claw, 1 Slyth
Dawn or dusk?
Dusk - Huffleslyth
Moon or stars?
Stars - Huffledor, with problem I mentioned
Forest or river?
River - Slytherpuff
So always-Puff, 2/3 Slyth Q6
Black or white?
Black - Slytherdor
Heads or tails?
Tails - Gryffinslyth
Left or right?
Left - Ravenslyth
Always Slyth Q7, with a 2/3 Gryff, 1/3 Claw breakdown
Suddenly, Gryffindor is no longer overwhelmingly your House.
3 - Highly variable. Ravenslyth, Huffledor, Gryffinslyth, but Huffledor is unfair.
4 - Always Ravenclaw primary
6 - Always Puff (mostly Slyth, some Gryff but a problem on that)
7 - Always Slyth (mostly Gryff, some Claw)
So you become much less likely to get consistent results, but also look much more Ravenclaw/Slytherin overall.
The lack of Ravenclaw Q6/7s makes this harder to call for an overall result. I'd still probably put Claw 1st, Slyth 2nd, Gryff 3rd, Puff last - but look at where Gryffindor is in these results! (Hufflepuff is not possible - trusted/Q6 is never going to be enough to Sort you Puff.) So you basically drew the one House that you could get but really shouldn't - the prime factors to Gryff here being that you drew a bad question set. Your penchant for water is the prime driver in a Slytherin Sorting (and the Q6/7s going more Slyth than Claw - it gets harder to Sort Claw with something like stars/black, but is still definitely possible. And the reason I call Slyth 2nd/Claw 1st is because Q3/4 count for more than 6/7, and you're more Claw on those questions - which should rightly matter more, given that they're more meaningful than a coin toss.)
But, yeah. You're a Ravenclaw who drew a bad question set, and your second-place House isn't even Gryffindor - it's Slytherin, even with the built-in quiz bias. This is why I scoff at people who say "Your first result is most accurate!" Because look at this overall Sorting, and then look at which questions you happened to draw.
