Second-fairest: Good, home, CBR, invisibility, ask why, dawn, heads - again, hard call - 1, 2, (7) Puff vs. (3), 5, 6, 7 Claw vs. 3, 4, (6) Gryff. I think it would go Claw, but it might end up in Gryff; again, since you're definitely more Claw/Puff overall, I'd call it for Claw. 

Again, your Sortings are going to be very narrowly decided by question selection; I'd call you a Ravenpuff overall, with the quiz bringing out just a touch more Claw.

So I've tried the Pottermore sorting test a few times, but my house has never been consistent, varying on which questions I'm asked. I'd like you to look into it, please, with the 27-question self-sorting: (listed in order from your directory)  

Q1: Cowardly, Don't care because I'm dead, the Bold, Wisdom potion.

Gryff, Slyth, Gryff, Claw. "Don't care" and "The Bold" are relatively unusual answers.

2 Gryff, 1 Slyth, 1 Claw

Q2: Golden potion, violin, luminous pool, pewter box, fresh parchment.

Gryff, Slyth, Slyth, Gryff, Claw

2 Gryff, 2 Slyth, 1 Claw. None of these are particularly unusual: the gold potion is #2 overall (and probably not #1 simply because of having 300 extra Claw Sortings); violin is #2 overall and draws over 30% of all people; the pewter box is vying for most popular with Merlin's.

Q3: book, cure then records. Trusted, loneliness.

Ravenclaw primary, Slyth secondary on the cure order; avoids the common bias problem of cure/book/records.

Trusted is Hufflepuff primary/Gryff secondary, but UGH AWFUL QUESTION EVERYBODY ANSWERS TRUSTED IT'S AT OVER 55% OVERALL RN. Also this question screws over Ravenclaws MAJORLY and Slyths to a lesser degree.

Loneliness is Puff primary/Gryff secondary and the fairest of the 3 questions.

Ravenslyth vs. 2 Huffledors.

Q4: ability to change past, ghost, hexes and jinxes.

Slytherin primary/Gryff secondary; Gryff primary/Claw secondary; Slyth

Ghosts is hugely unfair as an answer and improperly scored if you're going by actual popularity (in practice it ought to be Ravenclaw primary/Puff secondary; it also takes huge chunks of every House; Gryff gets the top 3 creatures where Slyth doesn't get any of the top 3.) Hexes and jinxes, OTOH, is an extremely unusual answer: easily the least-popular subject on that question.

Q5: volunteer, told Flitwick before test, dark lantern-lit path, eye peering at me, draw wand & discover source, offer to call a mental hospital.

Volunteer, tell before test, the alley, draw and discover, and mental hospital are all unusual (at least to a point for mental hospital, although again it's probably only unusual because of the low number of Puff Sortings.) The eye nightmare, your only not-unusual answer, is a completely messed-up question; most Claws also give the Gryff answer where most Slyths give the Claw answer (heights) and nobody gives the Slyth silly voice answer.

Overall, I'd call you a Slytherdor Hatstall. You might get more Gryffindor in practice, but if you take out the biased/bad questions (trusted, ghosts, eye), it about makes those two exactly even. Ravenclaw's a clear 3rd, Hufflepuff in last, and Hufflepuff would be EXTREMELY hard to get, if not impossible (trusted or loneliness/mental hospital/stars or dusk, but you'd also have to vary the other questions enough to split the vote - a Claw Q1, Gryff Q2, Slyth Q4, and preferably "left" if you pulled stars. It would be really tricky to engineer, but probably possible on the outside.) 

But, yeah - you're never going to get a consistent result because this is so split, and you might even see a fair number of 'Claw Sortings because you can pull Claw answers on every question but 5 (the odds of a Claw Sort goes up when you pull those and probably when you pull a Puff Q5, to pull weight away from Gryff and Slyth.) Overall, I'd say you're a majority Slytherdor.

Fairest-Sorting produces cowardly, golden potion, loneliness, hexes/jinxes, alley, forest, left - which probably goes Gryffindor very narrowly (by about one question - turn that forest into dusk and you have a definite Slyth Sorting.) 

2nd-fairest-Sorting produces The Bold, parchment, BCR, change the past, mental health, dusk, tails. That's likely Slytherin, although again it's a hard call: 1, ((3)), (4), 7 Gryff (there appears to be a very light tertiary Gryff weight on BCR but it usually doesn't factor in enough) vs. (3), 4, (6), (7) Slyth, 2, 3 Claw, and 5, 6 Puff. That's again a really hard call between Gryff and Slyth - I would love to test it to see, but I suspect it would be a very narrow Slyth Sorting.

Pulling your unusual answers to look at them, there are Bold, opinion while alive, jinxes, tell before test, alley, mental hospital, volunteer, draw/discover - which again splits about equally Slyth/Gryff (3 Gryff vs. 4 Slyth, but "tell before test" is one of those answers that ends up not working well in practice either: a majority of Hufflepuffs pick that while a majority of Slytherins opt to lie.) 

So, really, it's not all that surprising that you don't get a consistent result: you really are a Slytherdor Hatstall on this quiz (even if you never see one, because Gryff-involved Hatstalls are really difficult to get for some reason.)

Overall, I can tell right away he's never going to Sort consistently by this quiz - none of the questions have a decisive lean except 5 and 7! I don't think Hufflepuff is his most likely House - actually, my first impression is that it'll go towards Slytherin!

Fairest question sorting: ordinary or ignorant, plums and chocolate, being ignored or cold, learn everything, cobbled street, forest, right. This really highly dependent on his selections for 1 and 3, but ignorant or being ignored will send this Claw. Ordinary/plums/cold/learn everything/cobbles/forest/right is a much harder call, and one that looks to me like it should be an R/S Hatstall but might just go Ravenclaw anyway. 

Second-fairest Sorting: the great, sea, BCR, talk to animals, ask why, dusk, black or tails - I suspect this will go Slytherin without a Hatstall but is again pretty close between Slyth and Claw. 

Picking out unusual answers: adventures, drums, toadstools, BCR, talk to animals, tell before the test - doesn't show much of a pattern, the odd answers are about equal. But he really does have the potential to get any House with this Sorting quiz, and I'd rely more on reading each of the Welcome Letters and deciding from there.

This is not a good question. Trusted/praised/liked is too popular and tilts this entire question to Gryffindor (66%+ of all people pick a Gryff answer) and Puff (50%+ of people pick Puff answers), and Ravenclaw lacks a viable answer - they're least-likely to pick either of the answers JKR gave them points for, and less than 10% of Claws will actually choose a Claw answer! The worst question on this quiz.   Which of the following do you find most difficult to deal with? Loneliness - Puff primary, Gryff secondary, and the best of the Q3s.

A 2nd-fairest-question-Sorting gives: The Good, log fire, BCR, read minds, ask why, dusk, heads. That's actually going to go Ravenclaw!

So...wow. You have the most Hufflepuff overall, but part of the issue here is that your Q4 is never Hufflepuff, and Q4 is worth quite a lot. (Also, "liked" is part of an unfair question; you can't draw more than 1 Q1, 6, or 7, where you're showing a lot of Puff; "proceed with caution" isn't in a fairest-question Sort because most people choose it - the Slytherin option on that one is actually the least-popular 4-question answer on the entire quiz; and "stars" is pretty broken. But I don't think Gryffindor beats Puff in any case, especially since the Gryff answers you do give tend to be messed up.)

As you can see, any Sorting is possible for you, and your results are going to vary wildly. I'm guessing for the Slytherin sortings that you pulled a Slyth Q2, cure ordering, and probably the Apparition question - those three make Slytherin much more likely, and if you got dusk (a Huffleslyth answer), it would virtually guarantee it, even before you drew black. But Slytherin's nowhere near the best House for you, and I have to attribute 2 Slyth Sortings to a really bad question draw on your part.

Snyder's Slytherin and 27-question Sorting

Hiya, Snyder here! I’ve submitted my sorting on Desember 27 (its right below eahxoxo’s) and I forgot to write my result! Sorry for the inconvenience. Anyway, that sorting got me into… Gryffindor. I’ve actually been sorted into Slytherin before, by choosing;

1.    I  don’t care what people think of me after I’m dead

2.    Home

3.    Merlin’s book, cure, records.

4.    Every area of magic I can

5.    No one remembers who you are

6.    Forest

7.    Tails

But my friend felt something was off, so she forced me to do another one. Since I’m now more confuse than ever, I decided to do the whole 27 questions sorting.

This does make sense as a Slyth Sorting, although it's super-close to Hatstalling: I think that heads might have done a Hatstall or thrown it to Ravenclaw entirely, it's that close. 1, (3), (4), (7) are Slyth vs. 3, 4, (6) Claw (and 2, 5 Puff; ((3)), 6, 7 Gryff, where the (()) denotes a tertiary weighting.) So it makes sense as Slyth, but is literally a coin-toss away from a different outcome.

For a refresher for everybody else, that was:

That's really odd to me, since 3/4's primary answers are generally given more weight than other questions and 6/7 are least-heavily-weighted. (However, this does give weight to the idea that Gryffindor gets a tertiary weight on book>cure>records, something I usually don't bother counting since it's so rarely chosen by Gryffs and doesn't often factor in - that may have made the difference here. Book>cure>records is supposed to be the #1 choice for Ravenclaws, #2 for Slytherin, and #3 for Gryffindor (in practice, it's the #2 for Claw, #3 for Slyth, and #3 for Gryff - cure/book/records dominates everybody.) Either that or answering both 6/7 in the way of a single House gives something of a bonus towards going there (see also the Sorting from yesterday, where dusk/left tosses what looks like a highly split Puff Sorting into Slytherin.) But I suppose if you give (3), (4), 5, (6), (7) to Gryff it does make sense, and Gryffindor rightfully should have a tertiary weight on book>cure>records if all Houses get 3 answers on that question. Like I shared before, I'm a Ravenclaw and most of the time I'm sorted into this house. In the past (Although, some of my answers have changed since then), I'd sometimes be placed in Hufflepuff and every now and then, Slytherin.

Your brother, on the other hand, is mega-Puff, at least per this Sorting: 1, 2, 3, (4), 6, 7 are all Hufflepuff. (3), 5, (6) are Gryff in 2nd, Slytherin in 3rd with 4, Ravenclaw in last with (7) - but note that trusted is the SINGLE WORST QUESTION/ANSWER ON THIS TEST (40-50% of people answer it, including 56% of Ravenclaws; Ravenclaws have no answer they actually give - 87% of them answer trusted/praised/liked which are not Claw-weighted - and Slytherins are stuck with envied/feared, with only a secondary on praised to save them. Meanwhile, 66%+ of all people will give Gryff answers (trusted/praised) and 50%+ will give Puff answers (trusted/liked.) And the eye nightmare and stars are also things that have Gryff weight but are problematic - the eye nightmare is both very popular overall and waaay popular with Ravenclaws, while stars should really be a Ravenpuff answer if we went by what people in those Houses actually choose. So the Gryff 2nd is largely based on biased or messed-up questions! 

But it doesn't really matter, as looking at that Hufflepuff spread is decisive. Selfish, trumpet, and vampires are all relatively unpopular answers that are decisively Hufflepuff; trusted, stars, and white speed him to that House, but overall that Sorting is hugely Puff. (Of course, idk if he might be something else - if that's his only Puff answer for Q1 or he orders CBR and hates being ignored or if he would choose to learn everything and change his appearance - the 27-question result might look very different, but this particular Sorting is super-Puff.)
