HimUp prompt where Jongup works his butt off to buy a shirt for Himchan but it's ugly and he doesn't know if he should wear it or not because it's ugly af but he adores the hell outta his Jongup for doing this for him.
Jongup, Himchan and the Plaid Monstrosity;
Jongup held onto the bag so tight that his knuckles were going white. Maybe this was a stupid idea, maybe he should have never followed his instincts and he should have just kept walking and not stepped into the tiny boutique and allowed that man to convince him that this was a good idea.
Himchan never asked for a thing. Sure, on television he was sassy and needy and more than a little bossy but when they were off screen, or when it was just them it was something different entirely. Himchan was kind and gentle, patient and giving. He would come home after practice with Jongup’s favourite snacks just because, or he would toss a gift across the room to his younger boyfriend with a simply shrug and that same adoring smile, “I saw it, and I thought of you.” he would say. Himchan was always bringing him home thoughtful surprises, and what did Jongup do?
He had known his band members for six years, and still every time a birthday came around he was sent in a frenzied panic. He would angst over it for weeks, and Himchan would often stumble upon a search history of Good gifts for men and very skilfully slip in some suggestions. He didn’t know how Himchan did it. How he could just find something so naturally, how he could be a romantic with such ease.
Then Jongup remembered how he felt when he saw the shirt. It was a little big (Slouchy was what the store assistant said, as he insisted that was in style,) and it was patterned with plaid print in the most absurd colour combination he had ever seen, but it was made out of the softest fabric and just the thought of Himchan sitting at home, wearing something so cozy made him feel all different kinds of warm and fuzzy on the inside.
As he reached out with one hand to unlock the door, the nerves faded slowly away. He could do this. Himchan loved him. Himchan had loved him with he had come down with the most pathetic strain of the flu and he was bed ridden for over a week, Himchan had loved him when he had been in an impenetrable bad mood from being over worked and under-rested, and Himchan would love him when he gave him this gift. Regardless of how stupid he thought it might be.
The apartment was empty when he came in, and he briefly wondered if anyone was even home but then a snore erupted from the end of the hall and he became acutely aware that at least Daehyun was there.
He plodded down the hallway and gently pushed open the door to the room he shared with Himchan, peeking in. The elder man sat on the bed, a book in his hands. He was shirtless - as he often was when about to sleep, and his freshly dyed jet black hair was messy and freshly washed. He looked as stunning as ever.
Himchan turned his head to look at the door, smiling and setting his book down into his lap as he saw Jongup watching him shyly, “There you are.” he said with a warm, glowing smile, “I was wondering when you were coming home. I thought you finished ages ago.”
“I got distracted on my way home.” Jongup said, stepping through the door and slowly closing it behind him. He bit down onto his lower lip, holding the shopping bag tight to his chest, “I’m sorry if I made you worry, Hyung.”
“You know what I’m like. I always worry, you five are going to give me grey hair.” Himchan smiled, shifting to straighten up and extending a hand to reach for his beloved, “Did you go shopping? Buy some cute clothes for yourself?”
Jongup couldn’t stop himself from moving forward. His body always felt the natural gravitational pull towards Himchan’s warmth. He carefully lowered himself down to sit on the edge of the bed, leaning in to the touch, “A-actually..” he said, awkwardly pushing the bag forward, “I-I got you something.”
The surprise on Himchan’s face was obvious. He definitely had not expected his young lover to bring something home for him, and he immediately felt touched and a warmth spread through his chest, “For me?” he asked. Jongup thought Himchan’s smile was like the sun. Maybe it was fitting that they had fallen in love - the sun and the moon.
The younger nodded, pushing the bag forward again - as though to prove a point, before he withdrew his hands completely and waited for Himchan to open the bag. He chewed his lip nervously as the elder dipped his hands into the plastic and withdrew the hideous mound of cloth.
Jongup watched as Himchan stared.
And stared.
And stared some more.
The elder man held out the garment at arms length to really take it in. The plaid pattern looked as though it was printed on an angle to give some kind of individuality but what really stood out was the colour. The disastrous mixture of tangerine orange, lavender purple and grass green was a tragedy on the scale of Romeo and Juliet and Himchan had to wonder who on God’s Green Earth thought such a monstrosity was a good idea. He didn’t quite know how to respond when he looked at Jongup and he saw the look of such unimaginable hope on his face. It was obvious how desperately the younger man wanted for the elder to like it. He swallowed nervously and looked at his hands twisting in his lap,
“I know the colours aren’t what you usually wear, a-and it’s gonna be too big, and the pattern is weird and-and it’s k-kinda ugly but..” Jongup said, doubting himself as he took in the silence, “But it looked so comfy and cozy and I know you love being comfy and cozy and it’s so soft and cuddly and..” Jongup trailed off, “I-I wanted to give you something because I love you.”
Himchan was speechless and his face softened as he let the shirt fall into his lap, “Oh come here, you.” Strong arms found their way around his middle, dragging him further onto the bed and almost into Himchan’s lap. A familiar hand rose to cup his cheek and a mouth was pressed to his in a kiss that held such love that Jongup felt his whole body tremble from the intensity, “My sweet Angel I love you so fucking much.”
Jongup flushed and looked down, tucking his warm face into Himchan’s naked neck, “I just want to make you feel as special as you make me feel.”
“You, my love, make me feel more special than words can say.” Himchan reassured him, sealing the promise with a kiss.
When Jongup left the room to prepare himself for bed, he returned to the bedroom to find Himchan wearing the unsightly shirt and he couldn’t stop the way a grin split his lips, “Himchannie you look like the cuddliest ball of silly.” He admitted. Himchan just laughed and opened his arms,
