Book Proofs
I ordered my book last Wednesday morning and received an email today that the proof has been shipped. I found a coupon that gave me twenty percent off of the book. The code was LYNDA22 for anyone who has not ordered their book yet. I am really excited to see that all of our hard work has paid off. I'm glad that we chose the charity that we did. Things have been really frustrating but it was all for a good cause, so it was worth it.
Editing for the final book
I am really excited to see how our finished project will look. We definitely all agreed on what will be going into the book. I think that after we met on Thursday, we all have a better understanding of what is going on. We picked a lot of nice pieces of writing to put into the book that compliment our pictures well. We are going to use a lot of the art work from Brittany's mom's class which is really cute stuff. I think we are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Operation Homefront has teamed up with Dollar Tree to help families in need this holiday season.
Ranking Spreadsheet
I found this assignment to be an absolute nightmare. I do agree that overall it was very helpful, but it was extremely tedious. My group experienced a lot of issues while trying to save to document and it became very frustrating for all of our group members. We even tried to meet and complete the spreadsheet one at a time to avoid the problems we were experiencing with sending it back and forth but that took hours. In the end, I am very happy that it is done and now can be used to help us choose the best material for our books.
Fonts do have a purpose!
After reading I'm Comic Sans Asshole, I thought about giving different fonts characteristics that make them come alive. Times New Roman would be a pretty boring one that probably wouldn't be a fan of Comic Sans. I've used Comic Sans a lot in my life time and it is probably because it was one of the options closer to the top but at the same time it was always fun and lighthearted. It made what I had wrote more interesting to read but most of all it was a small touch of me added to my text. I think this is what fonts do. They help to further convey a message with a touch of character added by the author. It is one more thing that adds tone or voice to what has been written. I can remember being in kindergarten and learning the alphabet through letter people. It would be neat to come up with people that represent fonts and it would help us to remember what they are so that the next time we wrote something, we would know exactly which one to choose. I don't think that I could name more than ten fonts off the top of my head so by expanding that knowledge, and changing things up, maybe my writing would be a bit more convincing.
Operation Homefront Theme
Our group met recently in class and discussed the different themes that we thought would work well for our book. We ended up deciding that "Heroes" would be our theme.
According to Encarta dictionary, a hero is a remarkably brave person: somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such has great courage or strength of character "a war hero"
We thought that by keeping the subject broad, we would have a lot more room for different types of heroes. We want to know what a hero means to our submitters. We thought that we could collect letters, poems, photographs, and drawn or painters pictures so that we will feel like we have truly defined what a hero is. Our charity is Operation Homefront and they work to help soldiers and their families. We believe that these men have risked their lives to serve our country and so the theme "Heroes" is very fitting.

E-readers vs.books
I think that this photo shows how convenient the e-readers are. All of those books can be held on that small tablet, which is smaller then most of the books on the shelves. I think that it is important to move with the times in terms of technology. Like we discussed in class, everything is moving in this direction, so why would we expect our books not to? I don't think that we are facing an extinction of books yet because so many people do still prefer to hold the book as an object in their hands. When it comes down to it, it's all about moving forward. I'm sure that many were opposed to the first book rather than reading scrolls and they had the same ideas about the printing press versus the manuscripts. We continue to change our ways in order to be more efficient because lets face it efficiency is money.
