Walking along Cotai Strip in Macau, you may ask yourself that m I in Las Vegas. Hotel brands, buildings are similar, all laid along same strip, except Wynn Palace. It will open officially 22nd August. How is this 'Palace'? Let's have a look.
Invested 6 years & 4.2 billion US Dollars, this palace is familiar with some landmark in Las Vegas. Just the exterior, The Mirage. How about the Musical Fountain? Everyone may know it, from Bellagio. Even the front door, from Wynn Vegas as well. It seems everything puts together. These stuff are all from previous property owned except Wynn Vegas still runs by him. From Chairman Steve Wynn said, he just brings my favorite to Macau.
In Las Vegas, you watch the fountain show only in front of your room window or lakeside. You have 1 more choice here, by cable car. The 700m length cable car is built around the musical fountain. 10 mins for a round. You can watch the fountain show from multiple angles during the ride. The highest point of whole journey is almost 28m. It is stable, not that scary so far. You may get shocked by the thunder like sound effect or turning around near the two dragons. Go there almost sunset or after dark, it is perfect time to check out the fantastic lightning.
Wynn Hotels are all run in elegant and luxury style. Wynn red is common as a themed color. For Wynn Palace, Chinese emperor yellow and white is applied. 1706 rooms and suites is using this color. You can find this color in most of the public area. It helps on spacious and comfort, even the balance of red. This yellow is having story behind. Roger Thomas, the design team head once visited one of museum in China. He is attracted by the color of tea cup that last emperor Pui Yi used. Finally, he put it on this project that going with Steve's antique collection. It shows the harmony and stylish. Overall decoration is quite east meet west. It is quite Steve Wynn's style. Some inside stories are more interesting if you have chance talking with any staff.
Floral and art piece are two main elements that can find anywhere in Wynn hotels. Floral arrangement in Wynn Palace is not only real flower, pattern as well. You can find 'flower' from the ceiling and carpet. My favorite is Ferris wheel and Carousel in two atriums. Both are made by colorful flowers. These two lovely are made by Preston Bailey, the famous floral designer. Steve's said, he hopes guests see them and have a feeling back to happy childhood. These two big thing will keep changing everything 5-7 weeks. Steve likes different kind of art. He prefers his hotel like a modern, interesting gallery. The 7 art pieces, one of them is 'Tulip' by Jeff Koons, the stainless steel artist. Most people know about his great puppy. Tulip is new masterpiece. A bunch of tulips with different color and very shiny mirror surface. So cheerful feeling while you see it.
Excellent gourmet experience is the signature of Wynn hotels. 14 F&B outlets here. Few brands are my highlight. Wing Lei, the Michelin star winner got a new sister called Wing Lei Palace. The color tone using there is no longer red, mixed with white and Jade green. So far not that traditional Chinese but gorgeous. The view from Wing Lei Palace is already the musical fountain. Guests can enjoy the show while enjoying food. It goes with a little bar. Guests can have a drink before meal. Like Andrea's, SW Steakhouse is first introduced to Macau. This is Steve's favorite restaurant and named by himself. Guests can try a good quality steak and seafood from overall the world. It will have a series of stage shows. Just 2mins per show going with different interesting elements. It is tailor made by director Michael Curry and Steve Wynn. I watched the one called King Kong Experience. Big King Kong keeps eye on a sofa. Everyone thinks it should be a lady covered the cloth. When the big hand comes, you will be surprised anyway.
The Parisian will come up mid September. All hotels around like to have new promotion immediately. Wynn Palace seems do nothing, even the opening. The new B&B package set pricing over HKD2,588 includes a room with breakfast and cable car ride. The reason for Wynn Palace not follow the price cut is complex. It is not only related its new. I believed they like to keep the brand as luxury brand which is most important for long term investment.
