Here's one of my major issues with my fellow lefties:
You know this country is currently set up to have effectively only two political parties.
You know that both parties have been drifting to the right on their own.
You know that the GOP has accelerated the move to the right by having more or more radical candidates run for office.
So, why aren't you trying to slow down, or even reverse, the move to the right by working to take over the Democratic Party?
It may feel good to wash your hands of the whole system but you know that as many people as may be being hurt or killed today by the system as it stands, it will only get worse as it moves further to the right.
I know it doesn't feel good to only be mitigating how many people get hurt or killed but you have to begin somewhere.
Let's say you were to get your lefty revolution. Then what? What do you do with all the people squabbling because you haven't taken it far enough for them?
How long until a Robespierre is unleashed?
Everyone has to compromise eventually or you will just have a lefty dictatorship instead of a righty one.
This election is literally the last one we have before the United States becomes some form of Gilead. If we decide we don't like getting our hands dirty, we will seal our fate.
Personally, I don't know how I would live with myself knowing I could have fought to bring this country back from the brink and instead I stood by waiting for it to fall over the cliff in the hopes people would be more suseptible to my way of thinking and would gratefully acknowledge that I told them so.
You no longer get the luxury of imagining you can escape this without blood on your hands.
The question now is whether you have blood on your hands because you fought for those who can't fight for themselves or because you stood by and either did nothing or rooted for the worst because you thought it would eventually work out for the best in some imagined future.
It is literally now or never.
You either start fighting to bring us back from the brink and keep fighting the rest of your life or you stand idly by hoping things get so bad that people will admit you were right once you dig the survivors out from the ruins.
