This looks like the opening of a Harem Club Anime where the Grantaire broke a really expensive Vase and ended up working for them to pay off his debt.
Courf is picking out a new outfit for R, Enjolras isn’t exactly sure what’s going on, R wants to die and Ferre is genuinely questioning Courf’s fashion choices r/n.
Ferre, Courf and R character inspo from @batcii because I adore their designs for the modern les amis.
these sketches were only meant to be 5 minutes a piece but y’went and made it more with four characters huh? XD
I find it fascinating how I've come to associate certain colours and/or patterns with various members of the amis.
Like, ok, red for Enj, that's obvious. Green for R, also obvious.
But blue for Ferre. Where did that come from?
Courf and Joly share yellow, but Joly is yellow and stripes and Courf is yellow and glitter.
Jehan is rose, but also polka dots.
Montparnasse and 'Ponine share black, but 'Parnasse is a crisp, glossy black and Ep is the kind of black that you get with smokey eye make up.
For some reason I associate like a burnt Orange with Feuilly?? Which pairs well with the woodsy brown I always associate with Bahorel (Bahorel is, like, a lumberjack in my minds eye).
Musichetta is the full spectrum of autumn/fall colours - red and yellow and orange. Bousset is orange. (Goes well with Joly's yellow)
Cosette is a pale pink, and Marius???? Weirdly the only one who I dont associate with a specific colour.
But all the rest??? I see art by an atrist whose work I've never seen before, and it's a guy done in blues and a guy done in yellows, then it doesn't matter that I've never seen their version of Ferre and Courf before, or that it's on my dash and could be art for any number of fandoms, I know instantly that it's them.

WHO DID THIS, I AM WHEEZING
You know what, one of the things I love SO MUCH about Les Mis is the respect with which Les Amis treat Gavroche. in the musical at least, I haven’t finished the book yet so I can’t speak for that one
Kids are almost always looked down upon and dismissed - even when someone loves a kid, they don’t often take their opinions with the same weight they would afford an adult’s opinion. And the more serious a situation is, the less significance a child is given, because kids “don’t understand,” they’re “just kids,” they’ll “get it when they’re older.” If a child sees something no one else did and talks about it, the child is “imagining things.” Etcetera.
So given that children are so often dismissed and ignored and their opinions are next to valueless in comparison to adults’, it makes the whole Gavroche thing so much more heartwarming
you’ve got this filthy little street urchin who doesn’t have parents and who raised himself and who’s inserted himself into a revolution, and you’ve got this grown man who earlier that day saved courf’s life and has just come back from a mission to the enemy lines and reported that there won’t be an attack tonight —- and then the kid pipes up with “Um, my dudes, this here is a policeman and most definitely is not on our side,” and there is not a single hesitation from the Barricade Boys - they straight up grab Javert and restrain him, no questions asked - no “are you sure?” or “how would you know what the inspector looks like sweetie” or “you must be wrong buddy cause this dude just ran a mission for us”. No hesitation at all. Gav says he’s actually with the enemy, and everyone pounces on Javert.
And then along comes this dude kitted out in a full national Guard uniform claiming that he’s there to help, to volunteer, and everyone’s justifiably like “Uh huh, sure dude, seriously, you think we’d fall for the same trick twice? Come on” but then little Gavroche pipes up and says “nah don’t kill him, I know this one, he’s a good egg,” and everyone just —- accepts Gav’s word and let Valjean go. There’s no “are you sure you know him” or “how do you know him and what makes you think he’s on our side” or any of that. Gav says Valjean is a good guy, and Les Amis straight up accept it.
And I just. Really really love that? Because that’s so, so indicative of how much they trusted and respected Gavroche, that on both occasions they so wholeheartedly and instantly believed him about these two men and whether they were friends or foes
You know what, with les mis fics I actually way prefer it when authors don't specify their poc headcanons for the characters or describe their features, cause everyone has such different headcanons for them all, so however the author hc's them isn't necessarily how all the readers hc them, and it's kind of jarring when there's a character description that doesn't match your mental image I have a bunch of solid poc headcanons for the whole gang, so when I'm picturing, say, Latino Courf but then the author describes his Chinese features, I'm aways really thrown, cause huh? I thought we were talking about Courf here, when did we start talking about Joly? Whereas if the author doesn't describe their physical appearance specifically, or specify the character's heritage, then I can read Latino Courf while the author sees Chinese Courf while another reader sees African American Courf, and that way everyone sees the characters the way they hc them and everyone is happy
Me, enthusiastically singing along to Red and Black: They will come one and all! They will cOME WHEN WE CAAAAAAAAALL
Me, as the Barricade Boys' voices fade into silence and the song ends: [SNIFF] They won't, though. They won't come when you call. They'll stay hidden safely in their houses and they'll leave you all to DIE
Me, wiping my eyes: I'm fine
