It has finally begun. After days, and days and days of waiting, I can officially say I'm an IB student.

Assembly - there was one for the entire secondary section (Grades 6 - 12), where the new Head addressed the school, followed by the new Secondary Principle. Both were concerned with respecting peers and staff alike, fostering a conducive environment for education by talking about general stuff like discipline and homework submissions, or getting advise from teachers etc, etc.

There was a short presentation by the Head just for the new IB Year 1s (myself and my classmates) where we were oriented with what we may have to deal with such as deadlines, avoiding stress meeting the teachers' expectations etc etc, basically emphasising on a good work ethic, submitting work on time, and the general toughness of the IB curriculum. Also, there was an emphasis on the issue of plaigarism, and the fact that we will be suspended from the IBDP for an entire year if we are caught doing it.

After that, we were taken to our class; this year I have a large class compared to the last two years - 21 old kids + 5 new kids, 27 kids in total. (I had fifteen the year before).

Our IB co-ordinator spoke to us, answered some of our questions, and spoke to us a bit about what lays ahead of us. She was trying to scare us, but I don't really think she succeeded (I'm sufficiently scared enough from before, thank you very much). But that's besides the point, overall she was pretty sweet, and what she said made a lot of sense.

So by then our first one hour of classes that was supposed to happen was over and we had our snacks break.

Then, it was the Chemistry/Business and Management/Psychology slot; which is likely to change because my friend wants to take Chem and Psych, for one hour, and I had a free period. There are like, four of us who don't have a class during this period, so we sat in the Biology Lab and were busy talking (what, we didn't get any work by then yet!).

Then it was Math. the SL Math kids went of to the other class, and us HL math kids stayed in our homeroom class; the Math teacher went on to explain how the curriculum works - he gave us a printed copy of our syllabus, and also gave us an overview of what we had for our final papers and IAs (Internal Assessments). We had a one and a half hour of this, however in between we had to go in groups of seven to collect our textbooks. That took up quite a while. This math teacher is new to the school and he is supposed to be really good (he got quite a few people from his previous batch at another school to get 7s at HL). We are going to start Functions tomorrow.

Then, Lunch break.

PE was next but we have only half an hour a week now (YAY!) so that got over pretty quickly.

Our last one and a half hours of class was for ToK. And it was pretty damn awesome. All the posts here on Tumblr complaining about how ToK messes with their minds and all seems very weird to me right now.My teacher did say that there are two extremes to it; the people who hate it or find it boring and the people who love it or find it interesting.... but... I find the subject, found the component extremely fascinating. Of course, I may be saying that because this is my first ever class, but I am looking forward to the next class. Maybe it's because the ToK curriculum has changed for the 2015 batch?? Where there were 6 Areas of Knowledge before, now there are 8, and where there were 4 Ways of Knowing, now there are 8. I'll have another post one day explaining more.

Well. 

So... Considering everything that happened today, I think it was a great first day. Some of the textbooks given to us were FREAKING HUGE, and I sure as hell can't lug all of them back and forth from school to home and back again. Surprisingly, despite the number of English texts we have, the books themselves are pretty light and I'm sure we don't need to take everything everyday. It's math, physics, economics that I'm worried about.

I'll worry about that later.

Right now, my class has some pretty definite social circles. I mean, we all get along and all, but with the class size, we obviously have them distinctions. There's three main groups; the Girly (um) Group, the Guys, and the Girl Group of Misfits. The boys probably have their own smaller groups, but those are not very obvious yet. As you might have guessed, yes, I'm part of the misfits. That's probably because we have our own brand of humour. As my friend put it, we have an intellectual brand of humour that involves a lot of subtleties,  The new kids are interesting. One of them fits right in my group. I dunno how she feels about it though...

I've got a busy day tomorrow with no free periods... So I better go and read up stuff. Hehe. Or I'll do something I shouldn't do; Procrastinate.
