“The Fallen who never fell will rise, so too will the flames of war.”
Honestly as someone who has studied narrative for as long as I have, and who is teaching monster hunters rn, I find the “calling it now” comments on each episode of Covenant really, really funny.
I just realized that tumbler hasn’t caught on to the WEBTOON series Covenant and that needs to change, this thing is so gay and so cool! So check it out!
since there’s not gonna be covenant for a few weeks, i’ll probably do some work on some meta around the archangels lol
another great update from covenant! glad we're getting more on sunny's backstory
i love samson so fucking much!!!!! she is the literal best character in covenant, every ep she’s in she gets even more wonderful
i think it’s really interesting that both ezra and sunny have issues asking for help or accepting help from others. it makes perfect sense for each of their characters!
ezra isn’t asking for help about gabriel’s prophecy - we straight up see him think about it in Ep 11 (”i’d ask Father Aaron but... I know this is something I’m supposed to figure out myself. it always is”) but he doesn’t. he’s putting a lot of pressure on himself to do this big thing with no direction or backup! we see he blames himself when people die on mission, and samson calls him out on his hero complex. he wants to save and protect people, and sees himself as a failure when he cannot. he also seems insecure about not being able to use gabriel’s gift, calling himself “broken” in front of gabriel. i think his insecurity and desire to prove himself are what causes this.
in contrast, sunny is alone, he doesn’t have people around who he can ask for help. he’s been fighting off demons for a long time, and has some obvious trauma around this (even if the author wasn’t as explicit about it in the comic, his behavior is very common in those with PTSD.) if people try to help him, they die. my read is that his grumpy demeanor is also a way to keep people at a distance (in addition to being a totally normal response to the batsh*t crazy stuff he’s been through.) when ezra comes in and tries to help, sunny constantly tells him things like “i don’t need your help,” “i never asked for your help”, “this is my problem, i can handle this” and so on despite the increasingly high-stakes scenarious. in his mind, he’s survived this long alone, and wants to continue that way because it’s what he’s used to. again, this is a pretty normal response for someone who has been through what he has, hence the not accepting help.
hopefully they can both grow and come to ask for and accept help from others as the story goes on!
i love sister samson so much <3
