Summer Knitting: The Capelet Tank
This tank pattern by Cathy Carron drew my eye for two reasons. First, it looked pretty easy and as a new knitter that counts a lot for me. Notice that the cowl is done with great bid needles for a DK yarn. Second, I have seen vintage dress patterns from the 1930s onward through the 1950s that used large cowls which were styled in all sorts of ways. Of course, they often used clips, the fanged and hinged cousin of the brooch which has disappeared, in order to hold the position of the cowl. This sweater tank invites variations in how you wear the cowl too. You see here two ways to wear it: looped so it falls all in front, or pulled up to create a romantic hooded look. There are other ways to wear it too. I have made it--stay tuned for that next week--and have worn it balanced all around the top of the neckline and also with most of the cowl dipping back so that the front neckline is higher.
It first appeared in Knit.Wear Spring 2012, an intriguing magazine that seems to aim for a simpler aesthetic and sometimes some easier knitting patterns for us newbies. You can buy that magazine and multiple year sets as pdfs, and you can buy this single pattern here at Interweave: https://www.interweave.com/store/capelet-tank
