I realized my old Astral Masterpost from my previous blog SpiritConnect is very out-of-date and broken, so here's a newly updated version of it!
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
The astral is, to put it simply, any other realm than our own. It's an immense place, full of an infinite amount of realms, worlds, and even universes- each one unique from the next.
We don't interact with the astral physically- instead, some people may metaphysically visit the astral, and/or work with the inhabitants of the other worlds (who commonly appear to us as spirits or entities outside of their home realm).
How does someone visit the astral? How do you visit the astral?
There are dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of ways to reach the astral, as it just relies on altering your state of consciousness. Some people access it through visualization exercises (my favorite listed below), meditation, dreaming, drug use, trance work, spirits, and even moving in specific ways! It's extremely helpful to experiment with different methods, as they can work differently for different people.
My favorite method of astral travel is a bit different than what some others may do, as I focus on myself moving in an internal manner instead of external as I struggle with the idea of 'leaving' my body. I normally do it while laying down in a dark room, and visualizing myself shrinking and moving inward on myself, and ending up in a dark cave with a giant lake inside. I let myself slowly walk into the lake and sink down to the bottom. After a few minutes, I reach an 'exit tunnel' of sorts that I use to transition from my brain to the astral.

Why would someone visit the astral? Is it dangerous?
Honestly, the reasons someone would visit the astral are virtually endless! With the sheer number of realms, many with different rules and different psychics, there's not too much of a limit to what can be done.
For example, some people go to create their own areas, explore new worlds and lands, meet new spirits, even fly or shapeshift! Personally, I do it to interact with my Gods in a close manner and work alongside their spirits.
Of course, dangers do exist in the astral, as they do anywhere. Not every spirit is going to have your best in mind, and not every realm is going to be hospitable. It's always a good idea to set up wards before attempting to astral travel, and have an exit strategy in mind just in case.
