WIP snip time, some day I will get this bloody thing done.
…
Jester drops to the floor and begins rummaging feverishly in her haversack and Fjord’s larger bag, tossing out spare garments left and right. Beauregard, Yasha, and Fjord descend on Mollymauk and Jester, their faces alight.
Essek finds his face, rather suddenly, pressed into the shearling lining of Caleb’s coat as Caleb’s arm sweeps around his shoulders, pulling him in to a tight embrace.
The wool, and the leather, and the man underneath smell, frankly, terrible - days of exertion and centuries of grime, sweat and blood and sleeping in their clothes, soaked and indifferently dried; smoke and phosphorous and bat shit and the awful, raw-meat-in-the-sun fug of Cognouza itself - but Essek is none too fresh himself, and he finds himself leaning in, clinging to Caleb’s reeking coat like a crèche blanket.
A pressure at his hip and a small arm snaking around the back of his thigh must be Veth, and as Caleb loosens his grip on them, leveraging the gentlest pressure to keep them both close, tuck them in to his sides rather than away, Essek marvels, a little, at his own presence at Caleb’s side, with Veth. Caleb-and-Veth.
What an icon.

Taliesin as Kingsley making fun of Molly’s name and flamboyant clothes is very bittersweet
I know a lot of people are upset about C2 ending feeling incomplete, and I’ve seen a lot of stuff going around but I also kind of wanted to add my 2 cents in:
The mighty Nein are a really interesting sort of adventuring group: a lot of various users have talked about their overall trajectory and individual definition of heroism. And I can see how a lot of things feel unresolved; especially in regards to Caleb, the assembly, and what becomes of that entire political empire.
But I also want to mention: a lot of major arcs have lead characters to a lot of closed arcs too: Veth has a family she promised she would return to, Caduceus fulfilled his duties to help the party and fulfilled his mission for the Wildmother in restoring his home, and I personally feel that both Fjord and Yasha were following along mainly to support the people they love. Sure there’s loose ends in finding a Vandran and Zuala, but both have made their respective peace in letting those people go. Jester found her father and freed her mother from any strife afflicting her, even fulfilled her dreams of TravelerCon, and subsequently freed her best friend from his own self actualized prison. The hag is DEFINITELY of concern, but that’s something a one shot can totally cover. Beau is hard, because her path with the cobalt soul seems to be a path carved for her alone.
The point of all this is basically to say that, while continuing these stories would be incredible, it’s hard to continue writing a book that has come to a natural finale. This doesn’t mean that their lives don’t go on, but rather the audience’s window into their life has been closed. And honestly, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Getting Molly back is a gift, and NOTHING is a more badass finale (from both a content and story standpoint) than freeing an entire city from the confines of a man trying to be a god. Freeing hundreds of maddened and lost souls from the confines that held them back. The Mighty Nein deserves that selfless ending. While seeing how the politics of the Empire pan out would be AMAZING, Rome wasn’t built in a day. This is going to be a lot harder than just killing Trent; it’s going to take years of unlearning old habits and forming a whole new political structure to it all. While Trent dying would be a WONDERFUL sight to behold, it can be done in a one shot. However, the intricacies of the politics cannot be fixed at the snap of a finger or even in a session or two. It’s going to take in game years and years and YEARS to undo the damage done. With the Cobalt Soul and Beau’s aid or not. I hope we can see that in campaign 3.
Liam O’Brien: What’s sexier than a wizard, Nothing! Laura Bailey and Taliesin Jaffe making Jester and Caduceus, the two clerics who continuously win at D&D: Oh? Haven’t you heard?
"Whoever it was, just put it back. I think they've earned it. Just put it back."
