Vex’ahlia had been sure of her future from the moment she realized she could have one. Living the way she did throughout most of her teenage years, a degree wasn’t something she ever thought she could achieve, not to mention even finishing high school, but when the opportunity made itself available to her, the choice was easy even if she knew it would be a hard path to get there. Still, Vex was nothing if not resilient and she was one of the best students in her class because when faced with the threat of losing everything, she simply had to be the best.

One of the worst weeks of Vax’ildan’s life happened during mid-term exams a year ago when he realized he was in love with one of his roommates. Not because of the whole falling in love part, but because back then he didn’t think she would ever reciprocate his feelings. Vax had always been insecure about his worth, the words had been drilled into him by his father who found him a waste of space, so believing he was beyond the right of being loved wasn’t new to him.

Percival de Rolo smiled at it as it crunched beneath his boots. Snow in Emon was different. It fell early but didn’t stick until the last month of the year and then it was gone halfway through the second month of the year. It was fleeting, unlike the snow in Whitestone that was so permanent it found itself filling the mortar of the brick houses and the gaps on the cobblestone pavements.

A new semester had come and it brought with it the last warm days of the Summer. Percival de Rolo was glad to have his own apartment, an apartment he, not-so-reluctantly, divided with Scanlan Shorthalt, one of his former roommates. He’d been working at a small firm all Summer to save up whatever money he had left in his bank account, and, as such, he couldn’t afford to rent an apartment off-campus on his own. Two of the three bedrooms were taken by him and Scanlan, the third acted as a guest bedroom for whenever anyone wanted to visit (like Keyleth, he hoped).
