Overture Vibes: Thimble

ALSKJHFADLKSJHFL THIS CHARACTER! The way that I would have made a character pretty much exactly like Thimble (and often made similar as a child) if I'd gotten introduced to TTRPGs when I was like nine years old. I read all the Pixie Hollow AND W.I.T.C.H. books from the 2000s and was obsessed with fairies as a kid so this pixie is 100% childhood wish fulfillment vicariously through Laura, traumatic backstory included! (I had Issues)

Admittedly I have not kept up with C4 as much as I would like to but I see the vision for Secrets (Cellar Door) as an Occtis + Vaelus song!!

hell yeah! (and since this is no longer in the tags of his post obligatory shoutout to @skeletonsofstars for the inspiration here, if anyone wants lord huron song recs that is the place to go)

i haven't figured out everyone yet, i've still got a couple of characters that i'm ruminating over (and like this got started by me going "oh this guy constantly writes about death metaphors and complex/bad relationships with family so there's definitely an occtis song somewhere", which has held true that, yeah, occtis, julien, kattigan, are a lot easier to find fitting songs for than some of the others - thaisha and murray are the hardest, murray bc we don't have much info about her, thaisha bc she's the complete opposite of a lot of these songs)

but here's where i'm at with c4-ing the radical face discography! (also under the cut for length)

Occtis

okay Black Eyes is THE revenge song, so it was a toss-up who was getting it, but i think it's more of a julien one than a thimble one

and for the other side of him as a character, i don't have a good justification for Glory really but it just feels right

Kattigan

it's funny, Ghost Towns is the one that applies to like every OC i've ever made, so it didn't occur to me to give it to a character here until i was waffling round on songs that were vaguely kattigan but not quite and then was like wait hold on

The Moon is Down feels pretty appropriate as him to Thaisha

I like the way you talk about all the things you've seen/You make the world seem small for a time/Though, it's still too big for me

You were never at rest/You were always somewhere-bound/But as for me, I'm the simple kind/I'll live and die in this town/And I know my home ain't big enough/That it would only keep you down/And I'd hate to see you caged/So all that I ask is you come say hi when you're around/It ain't much/But it's good enough for me

(and it feels almost weird to assign it because it's the song everyone knows that gets assigned to everything, but Always Gold isn't not fitting for him and Thjazi)

Vaelus

for her alone, Summer Skeletons makes me think of her childhood/family a lot

We were sun-burned and shoeless kids/It was the dead of July/We were skippin' stones in the failing light/I smelled the fire place/Although we were miles away/We were infinite/There was no time in those days

and as mentioned above, Secrets (Cellar Door) i like because it's just ridiculously on the nose for her and occtis (and i already put two songs in occtis' section so she can have this one)

Drawn into the frost on the glass was a map pointing to my secret hiding place/It led you to the tree with the split in its trunk on the way into your family's yard/In that tree you saw I brought the dog back to life

I watched you from the branches while you stared from the ground with a look I couldn't understand/So I said "leave me alone, if your only words are ugly ones"/And you just smiled and said "come and show me how it's done"

You dug up your old bird/And you held her to your chest/As I breathed life back into her lungs/And she blinked and flapped her wings And she sang a familiar song/Before she took to the air and cut a path into the woods

Wick

Everything Costs i'm not sure is for him and tyranny or just him, but it's certainly something he's going through at the moment!

Azune

okay i'm not set on this yet because i feel like there's a better azune one out there i haven't come across yet, but as dark as it is Severus and Stone feels appropriate for the amount of grief and responsibility he's carrying with him from terrible circumstances as a kid

All the trees stood like skeletons/Silhouettes of spilled ink/And the snows fell in sheets and got wrapped around our feet/We built the fire evermore with winter beating at the door

Brother's eyes were getting heavier/His bony hands cold and white/And I could hear his ragged breathing like the wind along a knife/There beside him through the night, in the hum of candlelight/I no longer felt the time

And when I woke he was gone/And I was wrapped in blankets on the lawn/The sky was blue and my skin matched the hue/And I could hear mother crying in your room/From here on out I wear this face for both of us

Tyranny

Baptisms maybe? could also see an argument for The Road to Nowhere

Back when I used to wander, I was always out looking for signs/But they were never there, so I'd pull 'em from the air/We all believe in something, but like you I can't say why/It's just a whisper in our ear, or a bottle for our fears
