CRITICAL ROLE 4.02 Broken Wing
just really overwhelmed by the occtis and thimble of it all again like okay, childhood friends who only knew joy and innocence through each other even though they came from the MOST opposite worlds possible and then they get older and really can't/don't even see each other for years but then they're brought together again and it should be such a joy and a relief but it's in the middle of the biggest nightmare possible which only gets worse because then HE DIES and it's so much harder for him to feel anything now including the love he has for her but it's still there it's too strong for it to go away even when he thinks he's going to lose her too and THEN they get to hug for the FIRST TIME
HOW IS EVERYONE NOT INSANE ABOUT THIS
you know the other thing that really hurts me about the soldiers getting back to dol-makjar at the start of convergence?
thimble throughout the soldiers arc has been constantly worrying about occtis, wondering if he's okay, if aniko seremai was wrong or if occtis is really dead, if she made the wrong decision to leave occtis on his own and if she missed another best friend's death without being there to help
but the second she gets the chance to ask people who know what happened - she doesn't. tyranny's the one who eventually asks, and even after she brings it up, all thimble can say is "they killed him", and it's barely even a question
because she can't handle it being in question, after everything she's been through the past week and a half, it's easier to just tell herself he's dead and there's nothing she can do and she doesn't have to get her hopes up about him being alive she can just shove the whole thing into the same pit she's putting all her feelings about thjazi and move on
this isn't going to be like thjazi, where she was the last person to find out when she should have been the first. she's not going to sit there and let people tell her with so much pity in their eyes that they're so sorry she's lost someone else important. if occtis is dead then it's fine, we knew that already, we can stop talking about it now
(and of course when it comes to the actual answer both are true - occtis is still occtis, he can still think and move and be her friend, but he's never going to recover from what happened to him, the window for preventing his death came and went with no thimble around to have his back)
(at least she was the first person to find out about teor?)
thjazi forcing julien to go back for thimble was discussed plenty in the campaign itself, but in rewatching ep 30 im also thinking about how thjazi tried to push julien to go back for teor
the entire reason julien knew teor was in trouble and knew where in the manor teor was is that thjazi noticed, showed julien a vision of it, and tried to get him to go that way
teor and thjazi haven't fought together in over a decade, but they were both once torn banner! and thjazi by his nature gets a reputation for just using people as pawns in his machinations, but i think this is the strongest indication that no, he genuinely does care so much for all the people he used to fight alongside

tfw you ask julien so nicely not to kill your brother, but he decides well, you're not here!

thinking about how c4 seems to have the oldest pcs so far, and then got curious about age distribution among the pcs, so for anyone else who wants to look at it, have another chart from yours truly!
due to various timelines and crossovers, characters are placed at the age they were around the start of their story (in most cases, this is the start of the campaign they were in, though there's a couple weird ones - and bertrand bell was impossible to decide so i put him at his search for grog age)
a star on the character portrait means we only have an approximate age for this character, so my best guess may be a couple years off. i also haven't watched c3, so apologies for any mistakes there, i am using the wiki!
conclusions i can draw from this:
c4 has the most middle aged characters
but c3 has the eldest distribution overall
27 is apparently the ideal age to start adventuring
wick is older than most of vox machina
@elliesgaymachete some of them are from now unavailable talks machina episodes, but yeah i can give you those!
under the cut to spare dashboards
Sure buddy
Out of ladies of C4 with whom do you think Veth would get along the most?
I feel like the obvious pull here is Tyranny on account of her chaotic, jester-like nature that would feel reminiscent of the Best Detectives dynamic, but I'm not going to go with the obvious pull. I think Veth would lowkey be obsessed with Thaisha. She saw Keyleth's antlers one time and thought they were so cool she added antlers to her own winter clothes as a homage--imagine how fucking gagged she'd be if she saw Thaisha's metal spine? Thaisha's clever and sharp and funny, understands what it means to be a mother and an adventurer on a level nobody else can, is unbelievably cool as fuck and also like. super hot. I think Veth would be like "I have such a fat friend-crush on her, I need to be her friend if it's the last thing I do" and I also think that would be her way of covering up that she actually has a massive romantic crush on her, too. I am picking Thaisha. Veth would fucking love Thaisha.
this is what i'm imagining, btw
How many will you sacrifice?
@dreams-of-ravens i'm kinda hoping for, not good necessarily, but also to have at least one who didn't approve of occtis' murder (whether they spoke up about it or not)
bc yeah, all of them either bullied or ignored occtis when he was a kid or both, he has no good memories with any of them
but it's a lot easier to distance himself from his family if all of them are just straight up cartoon evil, and he just happens to be different to them
alex definitely wants to play the side of occtis isn't a perfect angel because that's not how people work, you can't grow up in a fucked up house without getting at least a little fucked up yourself
i think it would be really interesting to see that side of, this is a kid who grew up accepted by the house (to the degree that any of them were), and yeah that means probably did vent a lot of the stress and abuse from their father onto occtis like all of them did, because it's a lot easier to feel accepted by the in-group by enforcing the out-group, but they're not innately more evil than occtis himself, just. scared and angry
(and while that could in theory apply to any of them, so far all the siblings we've met have been so far gone as to be unequivocally an antagonist, a middle ground that we're invited to actually explore could be fun)
(and poor occtis has been leaping at any scrap of evidence he can find of someone on his side, someone julien won't be justified in killing - maybe frons is just following orders, petra and ryah questioned the logistics which means they hesitated, koral was locked up, maybe it was for defending me, anything, and he's gotten the same disappointment every single time. between 4, 7, and maybe his mother, we've got three opportunities left to hopefully shake that up!)
The All Work No Play episode popped up into my YouTube feed again, so I made a little compilation that includes: some wild Alex lore, a clip to show that he is the photo they use when you look up "gangly" in the dictionary, some monster movement, and... well, one of his special skills. ‼️ Volume warning!
‼️‼️ No seriously, VOLUME WARNING towards the end. There's a little context explanation beforehand; you'll recognize it.
