woahhh heyy, i drew this a few days ago actually... but i didnt know if i wanted to post it cuz i didnt think it looked that good BUT i like it now so here we are

i donntttt care if this isnt canon accurate to personalities, its just supposed to be silly mannn

When he was younger, Karkat was very, very clumsy. Despite all the precautions he was supposed to take to keep the secret of his blood, he constantly bumped into things, fell over, knocked himself, and became covered in ever more new, crimson scratches.

One day, his lusus dragged in a ragged cloak from who-knows-where. It was dirty and faded, chewed up by time, and yet the crabdad would diligently pull it over the young troll's head whenever he, for some unknown reason, wished to leave his hive for a short while. Arguments and demonstrative attempts to shake off the vile rag were of no use; they only provoked a very displeased growl from the lusus and still ended in its victory. In the end, Karkat had to come to terms with his guardian's oddity. And the latter was simply protecting his little knight the way he had been taught very long time ago.

This ritual stopped just a little before Karkat's 6th sweep.

Anyone remember the hiveswap comics contest? I made a comic EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. for the damn thing and this one was my favorite. So I decided to be really ambitious and remake it. Obviously I changed some stuff up. Mostly to make it a bit closer to canon since now we know more about the jades and their dynamics. I know it’s still not ENTIRELY canon compliant, but I tried my best. Happy to know I just barely managed to do a better job at drawing crabdad this time lmaoooooo…

It was also a great excuse to experiment with comic panels and my art style. It was exhausting low key…
