“Inquiries are ongoing”: Investigation into September 2014 Attempted Murder Re-Opens

In the midst of what has been an exciting and tumultuous campaign for City Council, news came from the Hathian Police Department yesterday that threatened to turn the campaign on its head once again. 

Lieutenant Angel Moonshadow, head of the Department’s Major Crimes Unit, gave The Spitfire an exclusive interview yesterday, during the course of which she announced that there was a possibility of the HPD re-opening a case which was opened and closed in the autumn of last year. 

The case surrounds the mysterious disappearance of, and recovery of, Buffy Ella Millet, a Seaside School student. On September 13, 2014, Buffy was last seen attending a meeting with the school’s then-principal, Paige Davenport, along with one of her staff. However, after Buffy failed to return home after school that day, her family became concerned and her sister and cousin began to search for her while her father began to initiate a Missing Persons report.  Her sister, Alexandra Markus (then Clave), was then a police officer. The duo, Markus and the victim’s cousin, Rachell Vond, spotted Buffy’s hat in the graveyard, and consequently discovered a pile of freshly-turned dirt and began to dig. Beneath the earth was Buffy, suffocating and thoroughly shaken. “It was very scary,” Markus says now, recalling the incident. 

The family was quick to determine who had perpetrated the crime - Davenport had previously been accused of placing the victim, and another student, in a tub full of rats. Her friend, Jayda Ferrentino, had previously strung her from a flag pole. 

Yesterday, Lieutenant Moonshadow was careful to say that Paige Davenport was not, specifically, a suspect, but that there had only been one suspect and that person was still the subject of the investigation. Davenport was the only suspect listed on the original incident report.

Today, however, Lieutenant Moonshadow gave The Spitfire another exclusive: she could now confirm that the investigation into Buffy Millet’s attempted murder ordeal, which was previously given one day of investigation, had been re-opened, that new evidence had come to light, and that, as a result of the new evidence, the case had been re-opened. The new evidence had prompted the MCU to pursue a new line of investigation, and new suspects. “Inquiries are ongoing,” she said, and “Arrests are expected in due course.” 

Later this afternoon, Paige Davenport, now running for City Council, was eliminated as a suspect. Jayda Ferrentino is also running in the election.
