Gif Tutorial
Hey, it’s not all bad news. If both people are on their phones or computers, they can be in completely different places.
However, if one is in daylight, and the other is in the darkness of their bedroom at night, those fools are not in the same place.
Under the cut is a guide on how to make crackships! This is just how I make them, and I’m sure there are easier ways, but this is just how I make them! I tried to make this tutorial as easy as possible, but if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask them! I’m doing this tutorial on Photoshop CS6, however I’m sure it’ll translate to any version of Photoshop, so long as you have timeline!
This is my finished product!
Okay, so, first thing you need to do is find the gifs of your fcs. Today, I’m going to be making a crackship of Rami Malek and Shay Mitchell! To find these gifs, do a tumblr search for ‘Rami Malek Gif Hunt’ or ‘Shay Mitchell Gif Hunt’ and click one of the hunts! I picked these two gifs.

Once you’ve done this, you need to save them and upload them into Photoshop, it’ll look like this!
After you’ve uploaded them into photoshop, you need to make them the same size. This is a must. If they’re not the same size, they won’t work properly! I usually make mine 245x150, but you can do which ever size works for you.
Your settings should look like this, depending on what size you’re making your gifs!
Now, once you’ve cropped the gifs, you need to figure out which gif you would like to put on the other. It doesn’t really make a difference, but I like to think it does! For me, I usually put the second gif on the first gif, in this case, I’m going to put Rami’s gif on top of Shay’s gif!
To do this, you’re going to want to select all of Rami’s frames and layers, which you can do by clicking the first frame, holding shift and then clicking the last frame, and doing the exact same, holding shift and clicking the last layer for the layers!
Like that! And then, you’ll want to copy all of these gifs by clicking this button in the corner
Once you’ve clicked this, this will show up
And you’re going to want to click ‘copy frames’, which will copy all that you’ve highlighted. After this, you’ve got to click back onto your first gif (Shay’s gif) and paste the gifs on. You’ve got to click the final frame of your first gif,
Click the same button,
But this time, you’re going to want to click ‘Paste Frames’! and this will show up,
And you’re going to paste after selection, and click okay!
and it’ll look like that! Now, as you can see, the first frame is on 0.03 seconds, but we want all of the frames to be the exact same time, so you’re going to click the arrow next to the three, click other, and change the three to a seven!
Now, I’ve noticed that Rami’s gif runs for a longer time than Shay’s gif does, so I’ve selected a few frames, and deleted a fair few of them. You’re more than welcome to leave it like this, but I’m not done!
I like to add a black and white filter over, to make the colours match. So, I’m going to open my PSD, and duplicate the group over to my gif!
But, Shay’s gif seems a little bit too white for me. So I’m going to adjust some (a lot) of the layers of the frames, until I get this!
And I’m done! Congrats on making your Crackship! and good luck!!
How to make crackship gifs without Photoshop and the likes
Here you will find a tutorial on how I make my crackship gifs. You do not require any program like PS or GIMP, only the followings:
gifs
ezgif
meme center’s gif maker
I am not the best at explaining so message me if you have any questions, but I will try to make it as clear as possible and use screencaps to make it clearer.
Please like or reblog if this was useful to you.
Step 1 - Find the gifs
You need gifs that flow well together. Think of the different point of views of he camera during a scene in a movie or tv show. For the example, I will be using those two gifs:
Step 2 - Cropping and resizing
You need to go on ezgif under the ‘GIF crop’ section. I suggest you open 2 tabs, one for each gif. Once you have uploaded your gif, you will find the current size of the gif right under it(see picture).
For now, the gif is already the right size, but if you do need to resize it, you can just type in the desired width and height(see picture).
Once you are done cropping, you just have to press the ‘Crop it’ blue button at the bottom. A new section will appear under the button with your cropped gif. If the gif is still too large and you need to resize it, you must click on resize(see picture).
It will lead you to a new page, where you can type in the desired width and height(see picture).
After that, just click on the ‘Resize it’ blue button and the resized gif will appear in a new section.
Step 3 - Put the gifs together
For this step, you need to go on the meme center’s gif maker. First you will click on ‘Create Animated GIF’, then ‘Edit/Use an existing GIF or image’ and ‘ Browse GIF/JPEG/PNG on Your Computer ‘. You will then select your first gif. To add the second gif, you have to click on ‘ Add Image ‘, then ‘ Browse Image ‘ and select your second gif(see pictures).
Once both are uploaded, you will want to modify the lenght of each using the 2 lines at the bottom(see picture).
I suggest each gifs isn’t more than 25 frames each, so you need to cut them using the little grey arrows at each ends of your gifs’ lenght. You may also want to make them the same lenght. Once you are done messing with the gifs’ lenght, you click on ‘Save GIF’(see picture), the rest should be pretty simple to do.
Step 4 - The result
Once you have saved your gif, you may now share it anywhere you want!
I’m sorry I’ve never done tutorials before and I’m almost certain other rphs would be better than me for this but under the cut, you will find the steps I go through when making crackships! Hope this will help you! This is also done without PS or any other program!
First, you need to find two gifs that are complementary. They don’t need to be the same size, this will be taken care of later. All you need is two gifs that fit together, think of different point of views of the camera during a scene in a movie/tv show.
Since the gifs probably won’t be the same size, I use this site to crop the gifs and resize them so they are the same height and width. Make sure to save them.
Once they have been cropped and resized correctly, I go here to put them together.
Click on “Create Animate GIF”, then “Edit/Use an existing GIF or image”, and “Browse GIF/JPEG/PNG on Your Computer”. Now all you need to do is select your first gif.
To add your second gif, click on “Add Image” on the top bar. A window will appear, click on “Browse Image” at the bottom, it should be a blue button. All you need to do is select your second gif.
Once you have both, you will want to modify the lenght of the gifs. At the bottom you should have two line, one per gif. Use this to modify the lenght and the order of appearance of each gif. Make sure each gif isn’t longer than 25, otherwise it will e very long to load on tumblr. You may also want to use the same lenght for each gif.
When you are done, on the top right is “Save GIF”. And the rest should be fairly simple to do!
