Anyway, the reason Theo’s so hard about the twins is because she’s been so soft with them for so long and they know exactly how to take advantage of that. Luke says he’s lied to Theo and broken Nellie’s heart, but he broke Theo’s heart by lying. Just like Nellie broke Theo’s heart by saying she never cared about anyone more than herself. Hugh and Olivia emphasized older sibling responsibility in their parenting. (Steven even has a speech memorized.) So of course Theo would take caring for the twins seriously. She’s touch sensitive, but lets Nellie (or who she thinks is Nellie) sleep with her when she’s scared. She’s always keeping Luke out of trouble.

Theo’s always been protective of the twins and they broke her damn heart. So, yeah, she’s wounded. She’s wounded when she tells Shirley to build walls between herself and the twins because Theo’s been building walls to keep herself safe her whole life.
