❄️ Hello from beautiful Mt. Ida, Arkansas! Mt. Ida is a town that is deeply connected to its minerals and mining heritage. Arkansas' world class quartz can be seen in many shop windows, and the mines are one of the central focuses of the tourism here. 💎Before we headed on to NC for the second leg of our whirlwind rockhounding trip, we stopped at the famous Crater of Diamonds State Park, in Murfreesboro, AR! Crater of Diamonds is unlike anywhere else we've hunted for gems--it's the 8th largest diamond source in the world, and the only source that is open to the public. Searching for a needle in a haystack doesn't quite describe the sense of futility in finding diamonds here--that being said, tens of thousands of diamonds have been found here by eager rockhounds. Did we find anything? Here's the olive green tuff finished! After levigating, drying, grinding and sifting the pigment once more, it seemed ready to mull. Removing the dried pigment layer from the plate I had poured it into was fun, it came away in big flakes like paper! The sifted pigment started off still a bit gritty on the mulling plate but quickly became much smoother under my muller. It has the same clay-like texture and low tinting properties of most earth greens, as expected, and a bit of texture on the paper after drying, although it doesn't really granulate.
