i’m aroace. however, i am also a philosophy student.

in university philosophy, the first thing they teach you is how an argument should be structured for it to be both valid and sound. arguments are useless if they aren’t these things, essentially.

since, for an argument to be valid and sound, it must consist of true premises which come to a relevant and true conclusion. an example of a true premise may be:

premise 1 (p1): straight (heterosexual) people experience romantic/sexual attraction solely to the opposite sex.

this is a fact that everyone can agree on yes? that makes this premise true. what about premise 2?

p2: aromantic and/or asexual people do not experience romantic/sexual attraction.

while some people may argue against the sheer existence of aro/ace folk, the definition to be aro/ace is to lack attraction, making this premise true.1

then we can come to the relevant conclusion:

c: aromantic and/or asexual people are not straight.

additionally, the argument can expand like so:

p3: to not be straight and/or cis is to be considered ‘queer’.

p4: as stated in c1, aromantic and/or asexual people are not straight.

c2: aromantic and/or asexual people are queer.

it’s that simple, unfortunately. if you still believe that somehow aro/ace folk are straight then please check your logic. your argument is not valid nor is it sound. a philosopher would laugh in your face, and that is incredibly embarrassing <3
