I watched Voltron like a week ago in one go for the first time (so tungle didnt affect my views in any way) and honestly ships are the last thing I thought about when watching, the plot and the characters were so great that I didn't take 90% of the moments shippers label romantic as romantic. Until Lotura and heart eyes with this overly romantic hand grab. (in fact i am very open about ships but lotura is like my otp) And Lotor never struck me as evil. In fact he avoided bloodshed all the time.
Thats a very interesting perspective then because that means you have no preconceived biases. So very interesting that’s the conclusion you came to. I came into the show with the same mindset like I was already interested because the original DOTU was my older brothers generation and they both really enjoyed it so once I saw Voltron was getting a reboot and they’d made Allura black I was sold on that alone.
At first I was jokingly like well if Lotor shows up I’m shipping them, but I did keep an open mind for the first 2 seasons because the person I was lowkey shipping Allura with wasn’t even there yet XD. And same I really just wasn't seeing much, as was brought up before Allura gets 'tease' but I felt the most overt one was her and Shiro's hi touch and the "I know how you feel" like I saw a little something but subsequently as the seasons went on the rest of Shiro's(and by extension Keith's) most emotional scenes all went to each other lol..so it was like <_<. And I say this as someone who doesn't even ship Shieth lol.
With Lotura its teaming with romantic themes and undertones and we're just only at the beginning of their working relationship and if it didn't I highly doubt so many people would be out here talking out the side of their neck acting all threatened
Also yeah sans the issue with Narti where Lotor was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t. He’s a red herring, and it seems a good chunk of the base are fallin for it hook line and sinker
