The teacher explains the material for us to learn and we try to listen attentively. We are told to sit still and pay attention. If we get distracted easily we get told to behave and pipe down. We need to be told the stove is hot not to burn ourselves and touch it anyway to see. When our parents told us they love us, we feel confident that we are not alone. We have to be told to clean our rooms or it will never get done. If we are told, “we can do anything we set our minds to”, this opens up opportunity. When we studied hard for the test, and got the “A” we are told, “job well done”.
When we don’t have somewhere to excel we feel like misfits and out of place. If we dress differently then the rest of our peers, we get told we are weird and think how strange. The school system teaches academics, if we’re artistic we lose interest and get told we won't be successful. When told who to date this makes our world turn up side down. If we’re told or feel we are not “worth a dam”, we suffer low esteem causing problematic behaviors.
We are not the same and fit into different categories, and people feel they can give their opinions. The story gets told from the winners perspective, make sure we are writing the book. Don’t be told what makes us happy, find peace and joy.
