The Poetics of Common Things with Orlando Ferrand

This event will take place in person at the Morningside Heights Library. In partnership with New York Writer's the Morningside Heights Libra

A creative writing poetry workshop session, where we will peruse a selection of poems revolving around familiar objects and the role they play in our lives. We’ll follow writing prompts to explore our interconnectedness and dependency on the inanimate inhabitants of our daily lives as we dive deeper into the subjective and imaginative essence of poetic discourse. Participants will be able to share their work and learn how to give and receive writing feedback that will enlighten the poet and create an emotional experience for the reader.

Writer, artist, and PEN member Orlando Ferrand reflects on his tumultuous adolescence in Cuba, where politics and sex made uneasy bedfellows.

Orlando Ferrand brings us to a dilapidated Havana collapsing on its own unsustainable socio-political and ideological system. The Bronx, NY., acts as the artist's safe haven through its vast landscapes intertwined with his fluid, vivid prose. Orlando Ferrand's photographs and creative non-fiction become his precious treasure trove.

Poet, author, and visual artist Orlando Ferrand discusses with host Rhina Valentin his new book of poems "Star Witness" and the launching of "The Bronx Memoir Project Volume 2," an anthology of personal narratives he contributed to as a memoirist and creative writing coach.
