Hi, I'm Lindsay, and I'm the hands behind Rice Paper Designs. I've gotten a lot of new followers recently, so it seemed like the best time to do a little introduction. . I'm 35 years old, a mom to three kids, love butterflies and food, and have been doing origami and paper art since I was a kid. . My very first paper cuts were done when I was maybe 12 years old, and my mother still has them hanging in her home. My grandmother taught me how to fold origami when I was very young. . I started Rice Paper Designs in January of 2014, and it has seen a lot of variations in the pieces I've made. Originally I made origami greeting cards and ornaments and sold to local craft fairs. . Since then I've launched my popular origami holiday cards, made a number of pop culture inspired paper cuttings, and been honored to bring some amazing client ideas to life. . 1.  Your job as a creative maker is to be who you are exactly as you are.  We tend to think we need to know more or be more before we can really make meaningful work but it's pretty clear that creative expression is at it's best when we realize that our value is in our individuality and in the truthful expression of where we are at.  Its why we love the paintings done by unselfconscious children.  We don't have to pretend to be children but we can try to recall the feeling of working unselfconsciously. 2.  Ask yourself, "what wants to happen?"  Sometimes, instead of driving the process, its better to pause and wonder.  Find a mode of curiosity, the opposite of ego or perfectionism and a powerful exploratory tool. 3.  Lean into the sharp point.  We all experience fear around making creative work and when we operate from that fear our work gets dry and filled with anxiety.  If we are willing to look at exactly what we are afraid of we can flip that around and find that the smallest lean in the direction we have been avoiding can open up a juicy exciting vein. 4.  Leave a little space for nature to assist you.  The patterns that the natural world is creating every moment, the ones we often copy in our work, arise from a kind of flow or rhythm that is all around us and in us.  If we acknowledge that, know we are naturally part of that, we can sometimes trust a little and let things go a little in order to allow some of that natural beauty into our work. 5.  Don't take yourself (or your instructors) too seriously.  This goes back to number 1.  Your job is to be yourself.  That really means to allow all the warts and all the beauty to show up and the only way to handle that gracefully is to have a sense of humour about the whole thing.  Kind of like life.
