So, I’ve never been a prolific writer before (depending on your definition of prolific I suppose I might not be now either) and I hadn’t actually written any fic for a good couple of years until the middle of this year. Previously I’ve been more into RP writing and was heavily into Sanctuary RP until about 2017 when I ran out of steam and work took over. But, this year with the pandemic and losing my job I found two positive things to cling to. One was the Golden Girls. Second was Berena and the rest is history. Now half the fics I’ve ever written were written in the last 4-5 months and are all Berena.
So, other than a couple of chapters that I’ve added to a long-running and long-suffering Stargate fic, all my stories in 2020, and therefore all my top 5, are Berena.
My Top 5 are (in no particular order):
Perhaps, Love written for the Berena-TBC event during the summer. It’s a post-canon fix it fic where they get together and live happily ever after, eventually. It was my first Berena fic and my first fic for a few years so I was really pleased with how it turned out.
Autumn Leaves This was a little fic I wrote in about 3 hours in an attempt to use some autumn/halloween prompts. It’s about Bernie taking Serena away for her birthday and the surprise she has for her at the end. It ended up being really fluffy and romantic and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Seems to be one of my more popular fics too, so that’s nice.
Winter Wonderland was my first Stocking Filler fic. It’s a ‘there’s only one bed’ combined with ‘there’s a snowstorm’ fic. I wasn’t sure if it would be original enough but apparently you can never get enough of - there was only one bed - so I worried for nothing, lol. I have another stocking filler fic in the works that I hope to finish this week, we shall see - I have cute plans for it!!
Mistletoe and Wine was my gift fic for Berena Secret Santa this year. It is a cute, domestic, fluffy one-shot of Serena and Bernie with Mulled Wine. I’ve never written a fic for a Secret Santa before so I was just hoping I could do the prompts justice. I was really happy with the dialogue I came up with and really felt I got the characters’ sense of humour throughout. I was also really happy with the title but then again I’m a dork XD
Finding a Way Home was my entry for the Holby Halloween event this year. I really enjoyed writing this fic. It was quite freeing to write them as a werewolf and vampire and I just loved being able to take these characters into a more fantasy based realm. I also liked writing a fic where Bernie needed the support of Serena, where she, and they, could have a happy ending (seems I’m all for happy endings with these two, lol)
Having not written anything during the year until August, I feel that getting 9 stories done (hopefully soon to be 10) was quite an achievement for me. I hope to write many more next year, imagination permitting!!
