I just watched this poor creator @wholesomepotato vent about being torn apart by our community because they weren’t “right”.

This fandom has come together in so many beautiful ways but there are so many people here that are so fixed on forcing these characters to be one thing.

It's alright to share your opinions but why do we feel the need to be entitled to cruel words/actions?

Not only is it the needless spamming, but it's also just the "need" to feel right in every conversation. Everyone is allowed to have their own ships, their own style, their own story.

Why do we feel the need to make others feel uncomfortable/bad because they see things differently than you?

The Octonauts are not one fixed thing, canonically they aren't apart of the lgbtq+, they aren't neurodivergent, and they're certainly not any kind of religion. However, that certainly doesn't mean you aren't allowed to show what it would be like for them to be that way! This show is for children, I hardly think in 2010 they were focused on making statements on gender/sexuality/etc etc.

The reason they made that show was to educate kids on science! Not to make political statements! You can do whatever you want with your version of Kwazii/Peso/Barnacles/etc. but that does NOT give you the right to force others to do the same.

I'm so sad to see so many artists/writers leave this fandom because they didn't feel safe with their thoughts/opinions! I'm so sad to see someone's passion flicker because of ONE comment!

We need to be better than this. The majority of us are in our adult/teen years, and I hardly think we have the right to act like this. I cannot tell you the amount of disrespect I have received over the years of running this blog.

The constant ignorance/entitlement people have displayed when I set a boundary and they do it anyways. When I say no, I don't need excuses, I just need you to do as I ask. If it's that much of a problem for you then stop following me! Stop interacting! You don't have to comment on something I did because it isn't about you!

l've displayed that l've been uncomfortable with a lot of things, but l've never gone out of my way to call out the exact people that have been doing it. Yet every single time, without fail, they call themselves out and I just have to sit back and stare because they were so offended by my "accusation" that they felt the need to defend themselves.

I hate when I have to block people. It actually tears my heart up. I've had so many people cause problems but I'm so hopeful that they'll stop and just be normal for a second so l don't have to do that. There are still a few names I know that I can hardly stand but I'm too kind to block.

I don't want them going off behind my back and talking bad about something I did. (I know I should just let them talk and walk away but again I'm a people pleaser)

I am not exempt from this! I have my very own opinions on things! There’s a lot I will never outwardly speak out about because I know when to keep my inside thoughts to myself! And if I ever do speak about something like this I am always being kind about it! I am never forcing the narrative! I am my own creative and I don’t need to make everyone feel the same way I do.

If you are doing this, it needs to stop. So many people are hurting and you wonder why we’re such a small fandom!

I don’t care if you make Octonauts art and decide to do something else! I’ll still follow you! It’s not like I suddenly don’t enjoy your style anymore because you chose Bob the Builder (lol idk, first thing to come to my brain) over my favorite show! People have so many different interests! Why do we feel the need to shame that?

I won’t be posting the rest of this weekend. I have been struggling with the drawing process of the AU Crossover Reference I’ve been working on and I feel that this post should have its own time in the sun.

Please take care of each other. You get so much farther with kindness and respect rather than hatred and prerogative. I hope you guys have a good rest of your day. I feel so bad for this poor creator, I hope they find some healing from it.

Animator and Writer Looking For Your Help

This is extremely accurate. I have no idea how long I’ll be out of work currently and I meet with a lot of friends in the industry in the same place. The time between projects is becoming longer and I’m at a point where I do love animation and telling stories, but I want to stop being dependent on studios and networks for a living wage. It’s terrible to constantly not know how long you’ll be out of a job with no insurance.

I’m going to try to get more of my work out there (Not by pitching to studios, that rarely goes anywhere. Especially if it’s an original story). I want to try book publishing again. Novels and comics. In the past, my stories had great reviews, but I could never get the word out on them. I’m hoping you’ll help me drive my work to being my full time job. I want to focus only on my own characters and stories without needing to desperately look for the next studio project to get onto. My stuff doesn’t get a big reaction typically, though Doris went further than most with her fan made Discord (Which I really absolutely love!) To keep these ideas going and building more, I need your help.
