Please Help My Disabled Aunt 🥲
To start, my aunt is on the spectrum, non-verbal, diabetic and bedridden. After having a stroke in 2017, she was hospitalised for a few months and due to the negligence of the hospital workers, they kept her lying on one side the entire time she was there. Now, her leg is twisted and she is unable to support her own weight and has been bedridden for many years.
I live in an apartment with my disabled aunt, an able-bodied aunt and my mother--and we have been living in this apartment for the past twenty years.
It is the middle of summer; we are in the hottest month of the year-- yet our landlord refuses to put an A/C in the apartment. I've reached out to that landlord asking for her permission to put a split unit in the apartment at my expense, but she still told me no.
It's dreadful enduring the heat every day, and I can tell my disabled aunt is miserable, too. As she is non-verbal, she groans often to express her discomfort. Additionally, my mother is hypertensive, and we've had a situation where the heat was the direct cause of her blood pressure elevating to a dangerous level. We have fans, of course, but they do very little to beat the heat and humidity.
I have a dream of moving out of this two-bedroom apartment and into a better one--one where I'd be able to have my own room, instead of sleeping on the sofa in the living room like I've been doing for the past 5 years... one with split units to beat the summer heat, alongside a compassionate landlord. We've endured years of living with termites, among other things, and I do wish we can free ourselves from the landlord we have now.
The problem is: this is a low-income family. My able-bodied aunt retired early in 2017 due to an industrial accident that left her unfit for work in general. My mother makes an annual salary of $20k USD, and I make an annual salary of $21k USD. With the cost of rent continuously on the rise, it is virtually impossible for us to move out because we cannot afford the general $1800.00 USD rent in the market right now.
I just want to help my family in any way that I can, but my wallet cannot stretch far enough to help us have a better living situation.
I don't know what else to do. I've tried; I've given it all that I have, but it's extremely difficult to get by in my country. It feels like a constant uphill battle, but I'm trying my best to remain hopeful.
As Gofundme is not supported in my country, I've created a Ko-Fi instead. If anyone knows a better website for donations, please let me know.
Please, please, please... If there is anyone out there who can assist me in moving my disabled aunt into a better apartment, please see the link below.
