Mebius 20th Anniversary
I just finished watching Ultraman Mebius for the first time. I'm in tears!!
AAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Spoilers didn't prepare me for anything! I was at the edge of my seat through the Final Trilogy. If I hadn't already lost my voice I definitely would have from all the attempted screaming.
I have so many feelings, so much I want to say, but I can't organize the words.
I love it so much! Mebius has given some much needed inspiration and enthusiasm that has been missing in my life. I'm glad to have seen it.
Now a little break and onto Armoured Darkness!
I started the sketch for this like two years ago. But I dug it up, redrew the sketch, and now I've finished it. Er, ignore that humans should be a lot smaller compared to Mebius, this is, uh,, visual metaphor, yeah.
Konomi is happy because it’s Friday, which means the weekend starts and the glasses come off!
you know what?
send me asks about these guys
they can be about anything (headcanons, what i think their relationships are like, my backstories for them, etc.)
Look at Where We Are Now, Look at Where We Started
Uh, something something, Mebius’ fifteenth anniversary. It’s the eighth where I live, so I’m not late, I’m right on time.

Ryu paused, noting the date on the calendar. It was a day that he had always sort of, filed away and kept in mind. On this day, so many years ago, in the wake of everything that had happened, the death of so many of Ryu’s teammates, he’d found new ones. But it hadn’t been by his actions, rather it had been by the actions of one person in particular, the one that brought them together time and time again. Mirai had been so much more than anyone had realized at that point, not just that he was Ultraman Mebius, either.
That was... Fifteen years ago, now, wasn’t it? It was odd how the time had passed, almost in a blink but at the same time, an eternity. Ryu almost hadn’t realized how long it had been but... But yeah, all those years ago they’d come together.
As he went through his day, he found himself being reminded of so many things that had happened in the past. When a monster appeared, as they still did on some occasions, he was reminded of George and of Marina. Of Konomi’s bond with Miclas and Teppei’s knowledge of monsters. Of how Mebius would fight with them against the monsters.
After the monster was defeated, he laughed quietly to himself, deciding that he should probably bring up the date to his friends. They all shared a group chat, now, so they could just, talk. They didn’t talk a lot, they were all busy with their own lives, but they always found time to just talk a bit. Be it through phone calls, brief meet ups, or group texts.
---
Konomi had started the day with more a smile than normal, she’d known what day it would be today for the better part of the week. Every year she remembered, because how could she not, and she would come to school with a just a bit more cheer.
George was often the one who needed to be reminded, especially the first few years when he hadn’t even really payed attention. He was better about it now, but still occasionally needed reminded (though he often responded in the group chat with a “oh right” or some variation thereof, they were pretty sure he was just messing with them).
Teppei made sure to mark the day on his calendar, just to make sure he won’t forget. It was easy to get caught up in all his work as a doctor, but he always made sure he didn’t forget. Even if it was just for himself to remember. No one had really known how agreeing to help Mirai with Crew GUYS like they did would change their lives.
Marina was pretty good about remembering the date, though she on some occasions would have it briefly slip her mind during the day itself or the days leading up to it.
Sakomizu had the impeccable ability to remember dates and while he hadn’t initially realized why the rest of them always recalled the date, he quickly realized. He too would look back fondly on that day.
The thing about the day was that they never really did anything about it, they never really celebrated. They just looked on it was a fondness knowing that, while it wasn’t the day everything started, it was the day they made a concrete decision that kicked things off. After all, they didn’t have to work with Crew GUYS, but somehow, Mirai had seemed to just know that they’d ultimately choose.
Sometimes, they wondered if Mebius ever noticed the date. Ever thought about the time that had passed like they did. After all, fifteen years didn’t seem to be that much for an Ultra, and they’d only really known Mirai for far less than that. They’d all been apart longer than they’d been together.
---
Mebius’ thoughts paused for a moment, almost interrupted in the realization of the day. He’d been on his way to speak with Hikari - for no particular reason but he liked to keep talking with him, they were friends after all. He hadn’t had any topic in particular in mind to talk with Hikari about, but his realization gave him the perfect opportunity.
After he and Hikari greeted each other, Mebius spoke, “It’s been fifteen years, Hikari,” He couldn’t help but smile, “I wonder what they’re all up to now?”
“Hm?” Hikari looked up from whatever he was working on, some item or other to aid less experienced Ultras, as he most often seemed to be doing. As it was, he was in the midst of some math, it seemed. “Who?”
“My friends,” Mebius huffed, “On Earth. Fifteen years ago was when Marina, Konomi, Teppei, and George joined Crew GUYS.”
Hikari looked up and at Mebius, “Hm, I suppose it has been,” He sets his pen down, “You would be the one to remember that.”
“Of course!” Mebius smiled, “They’re my friends, I could never forget such important things about them.” It was something of a bold statement, given the much longer lives of Ultras. Long after his friends on Earth would be gone, he’d be remembering them. It was simply that they meant far too much to Mebius for him to simply forget them.
The thing was, they were his friends and they’d always mean so much to him. He’d had a friends growing up, here and there - they shifted as they all grew and gained different interests and aspirations - but none of them were like the ones he made on Earth. The ones bonds he formed with Crew GUYS were special - he just couldn’t quite explain why.
Each of them were so amazing and so different in their own ways. They had their own strength and weaknesses, but were able to work together so well. Despite their own hopes for each of their futures, they were willing to put it all aside at Mirai’s request, so that they could help others. There were times when it would seem like they may never even get to achieve their goals, but they seemed to have no regrets about the decision.
Crew GUYS, his friends, were special. If in no other way, than they were special to Mebius. Mebius, Hikari and Zoffy would never have been able to defeat Empera on their own. Crew GUYS were most certainly the reason they were able to succeed. There was nothing you could do to change Mebius’ mind on that matter. He wouldn’t ever meet others quite like Crew GUYS, though he may someday meet people who were similar. But no one, not a single person, could ever be exactly like them.
“You were close with them,” Hikari agreed, nodding, “Even though you were only on Earth for a brief amount of time.”
Mebius smiled, “You don’t have to know someone for a long time to become good friends with them.”
Hikari laughed, “You would know,” There was a certain fondness in his voice as he continued, “You’ve befriended someone rather quickly more than a few times, if I recall correctly.”
So maybe Mebius had a track record of befriending a bit quickly, and maybe, on some rare occasions, that may have caused him to hurt a bit more than others, but he couldn’t help it. Some part of him seemed to just take people and want to be their friend, even if he’d just met them. He’d pretty much done it with Hikari, and he’d certainly done it with others.
“I miss them,” Mebius finally said, “I wonder how they’re doing?” He hoped that they’d all been doing well, that no one had gotten too hurt - especially Ryu since he was still working for Crew GUYS. Nothing short of death was going to stop him, after all - that they’d all been enjoying their lives.
Maybe he should see about trying to visit them, it had been several years since he’d last been to Earth. He could see his friends again, see how they were doing. That would be nice.
---
Fifteen years ago, a bright eyed Ultra had come to Earth at the end of a peaceful time that had no monsters. He’d arrived and chose to fight with the humans, like those before him. He’d befriended those humans, they’d become so important to him. And when the time came to face a threat unlike anything they’d ever seen, they’d combined their powers and had been able to defeat it.
It had been a long time ago, it seemed, but it had also been not that long at all. The journey that Mebius had gone through, the experiences he’d had, his the friends he’d made... It was something that would stay not just him, but also with his friends.
It was something special, something that everyone was glad they got to experience, for the good and the bad. The happy times and the painful times, sometimes so close together.
Mebius’ journey was more than just his own, after all.
Mirai: Fuck-
All of Crew GUYS: Gasp!
Ryu: Alright, who the fuck taught him that?
