A Little on Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy and Lynch Mobs
Something that our team talks about a lot when planning for adventure modules for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy is going out of our way to make sure it’s not just, like, a lynch mob game.
Eureka has a lot of contempt for the American “justice” system but on the other hand we try to write the modules so that they aren’t “the liberal police don’t care so it’s up to red blooded Americans to go out and kill Bad Guys without trial.” which is a really really easy pit to fall into when literal monsters like vampires exist in the setting. The problem with cops isn't that they don't kill enough people.
As I’ve said in another post linked here and to some extent text in the rulebook itself, self-described “monster hunters” are some of the sickest individuals in the setting.
Oh and anyone currently working on the adventure module game jam, check for this kind of attitude accidentally cropping up in your work too.

See, folks 'round here are used to Meemaw's warnings 'bout haints, green-eyed prowlers, 'n not-deer, hell, even survived those werewolves S&C unleashed — 'n who knows what they're planning next…
Somethin' other than the town's many moonshiners — you can thank Prohibition for that profitable business runnin' rampant here — is lurking under the cover of night. Innocent people torn from their beds on the full moons, their flesh ripped open by razor-sharp teeth 'n their blood drained from their body. Mists, folks been callin' 'em — on account of them bein' made of fog; blood-suckin' clouds of the devil, I say.
Despite it all, Briar Ridge takes care of its own: moonshiners building their empires, queer folks finally able to be their full selves, businessmen who lost their fortune in the Great Depression, folks of color finding acceptance, (ex-)S&C employees hiding their past affiliations; those calling for blood and those beggin' for peace.

Welcome to New York: In this gritty urban landscape, three notorious crime families—the Valentis' Family (Italian), the Moretti Syndicate (British), and the Petrov Organization (Russian)—are locked in a brutal war for supremacy. Each family possesses unique strengths and strategies, turning New York into a battleground where betrayal and violence are commonplace.
Today: Tensions are escalating as the Moretti family has declared war on the Petrov family following the murder of Victor Moretti, the family boss, by Dimitri Petrov. This conflict ignited when Victor arranged for Raven, his unknown daughter, to marry Dimitri without revealing their true relationship. Despite the turmoil, Raven's love for Dimitri is unwavering, and she chooses him and the Petrov family over her own blood. When Raven chose Dimitri, it set off a chain of events that led to Victor confronting her. He shot her, but while she survived, their unborn child was tragically lost. In a fit of rage, Dimitri unleashed his ruthless side and killed Victor. Now, Raven's brother, the new head of the Moretti family, has declared war on the Petrov clan.
