“This is my song!” was repeated through the crowd, and girls pulled their beaus out onto the wooden dance floor. You had just pushed through the swinging doors of the Swingin’ Doors Saloon. With the sudden change of music, the bar cleared enough to give you room to immediately put in your orders.
“Howdy, what can I get you, darlins?” The bartender smiled as you and your friends approached.
“We need somethin’ that’ll put some hair on our chests. Our friend here just got dumped.” Soojung threw an arm around your shoulders.
“Hurricanes sound good to all y’all?” He asked, already grabbing the liquids.
Your friends voiced their agreements excitedly.
“They must be dumber than a stump. You’re as pretty as a peach.” He grinned at the blush creeping onto your face.
“Are you single?” Soojung blurted.
With a chuckle, the bartender answered, “Yes ma’am, I am. I wouldn’t mind callin’ you ‘baby.’” He sent a wink at you.
“You can call her whenever you’d like.” Amber cut in jokingly, taking the first drink he finished.
“First round’s on the house. I’m Jongdae if you need more.” He placed the last two drinks on the bar before wiping down the counter.
“Y/N needs a real man.” Soojung yelled as the three of you walked away to a tall table.
“What ‘bout him?” Amber pointed to the tall stranger country dancing with a girl on the dance floor closest to your table.
“Oooh, he’s handsome, and he can dance,” Soojung grabbed your arm and shook it, “Go nose your way in there.”
“Y’all, I’m too shy to do that.” You stirred the straw around in your drink.
“Whatchu bein’ bashful for? He’s even glancin’ over here.” Amber said.
The song blended into the next, and several couples left the floor. The tall guy strolled past you, smirking your way. Your heart beat quickly as Amber called him back.
“Could you show our friend how to have fun?” She asked when he was close enough to hear.
“You know how to dance?” He peered at you.
“Kinda, but I ain’t drunk enough for this.” You held a finger up as you sucked down half of your drink, causing him to laugh.
Once you took his hand and followed him out to the floor, he wrapped his arm around your neck, your shoulder in his armpit, and his other hand occupied yours. You hesitantly hooked your arm around his waist.
“I’m Sehun, by the way.” He spoke into your ear.
“Well, Y/N, what’s a sweet girl like you doin’ in a bar on a Saturday night?”
“My boyfriend broke up with me last week, and my friends wanted to cheer me up.”
He began swaying your bodies quicker with the beat of the song before spinning you out and twirling you back into his arms.
“You seem to be enjoyin’ yourself.” He chuckled at the little giggle that slipped out of your mouth when your bodies collided.
“I’ve never danced at a saloon before.”
“Your ex never took you out for that? He’s a sucker. You know how to flip?”
Sehun smirked as he pushed you out and whipped you back to be lifted into the air. His hand caught under your knees, and then you were being flipped backwards.
“Holy shit! Don’t do that again!” You squealed, and he laughed.
There was a ruckus of your friends hollering, and suddenly you were being ripped away from Sehun.
“Who the hell is this?” Your ex, Taemin, asked incredulously.
“Hey, back off. We’re just dancing.” Sehun tried to reason.
“How about you keep your hands to yourself?” Taemin shoved at Sehun’s chest.
“Taemin, stop it!” You shouted at his backside. Soojung and Amber came to your aid, hovering around you protectively.
“I’m fixin’ to knock you into next week.” Sehun warned.
“It’d be smart if you just high tailed it on outta here.”
“Sir, I’m gonna have to ask you to leave.” Another voice entered the stand off. Jongdae stepped between Taemin and Sehun.
Before Taemin stood down, he spat at Sehun’s boots. That triggered chaos. Sehun threw a fist into Taemin’s jaw, making him stumble.
Jongdae’s voice rose, “Both of you need to leave.” With that, two security guards pushed through the crowd that gathered and separated the heated two.
You turned to your friends feeling worse than when you arrived, “Can we go? I have to be up to go to my cousin’s baseball game in the morning.”
They nodded sympathetically and guided you outside to safety.
