don’t know where else to put this thought so hey hi hello. bookworm jason todd and the infamous “destroyed or pristine?” conversation

occasionally i see batfam posts where jason’s made up with the family, and someone borrows a book of his, and it’s passed off in neat condition. in some cases he has a fit when it’s returned with a wrinkle in the cover (if paperback) or the spine is cracked or a page has been threatened by a dog ear rather than using a bookmark

and this is a personal thought, so i’m allowed to say i disagree🫵 as well as this being something i do, so i’m obliged to say i’m projecting habits🫵

i don’t think jason would have any issue with properly breaking in a book. so much so they end up looking like a wreck your journal by the end

jaybin who color codes. quotes, phrases, pieces of dialogue, descriptions, etc.—whatever stands out to him—in one color, underlining words he’s unfamiliar with in another to later create a book-specific glossary in another, scribbling thoughts or callbacks or references or personal experiences in the margins in dark pencil, lightly blocking and filling in the shape around words/sentences/etc when they remind him of people in his life (momma, bruce, alfred, dickie, and so on)

jason todd who, post-resurrection and post-makeup, finds a box of all his shittily annotated books off in the corner of the wayne estate library. labelled, with books neatly stacked, and a baggie of all his old writing tools. not all of them are there, jason knows he read a much larger chunk of bruce’s library while robin, but the rest of his kiddie thoughts are in books neither bruce nor alfred would think to look for

jason todd who does the exact same things now, color coding and underlining and creating glossaries. he dog ears, he scribbles imagery, he folds his paperbacks to keep himself from reading ahead. he lends out his favorite books and flips through them when returned, smiling at new annotations. all in the same color but different shades; if it’s damian borrowing one, sometimes scribbles are colored in, or added to, or have an entirely new rendition

all this to say: jason breathes life into what he reads, and doesn’t mind others doing the same

i watched robpat’s Remember Me a couple nights ago, and, ignoring the ending, have been sort of piecing a dickjay Remember Me AU together:

jason as tyler hawkins, 21yo college kid, living with roy in a shite gotham apartment, with bruce as his “my love for you is shown through how my money provides for you” father figure, their suicide in the family is jason’s bio mom, and damian is the younger sibling he would do absolutely anything for.

dick as ally craig—in this situation dick is a foster, maybe living with a relative, even though ally lives with her father, but for the consistency of both of dick’s parents dying… you get it—another 21yo college kid, living with whoever his guardian is, with who he has a rough relationship with because of the loss of his parents.

jason, one night, out with roy, talking up a couple girls until they stumble upon an alley fight. jason steps in, gets his face smashed into a windshield by none other than dick’s guardian.

roy who later sees dick dropped off at campus by the cop who busted up jason, who then plots a “hey man, you should revenge fuck the cop’s kid” sort of scheme. it’s important, here, to keep the fact tyler got ally into conversation via a fake sociological study. jason would sooo totally try it.

their relationship starts, things are smooth, they’re fresh, dick absolutely adores damian and damian more than tolerates him.

then dick shows up at jason and roy’s place saying his guardian hit him over an argument about his parents, and asking if he can stay with them for a while.

jason and roy of course say yes, and things are easygoing until dick’s guardian shows up to their apartment, a bunch of jason’s things in his hands, and asking jason if dick knows. they fight, and dick walks in to a rough looking jason smoking by the window, to which he then tells dick their relationship was all a stupid idea from roy

they split until roy goes begging dick to come back, putting the whole idea of jason revenge dating him on his own shoulders and saying jason actually gives a major shit about dick

unfortunately i do love stereotypical late 2000s/early 2010s cali boy kagami. obsessed, even

street ball and the newest rap album on his weekends, surfing as a “break”, dumb tan lines and that even dumber roman numeral tattoo under his right pec guys love to get (for his mom, maybe), spending as much time as he can under the sun, talking late into the night with everyone back in japan (“so you don’t forget your japanese” “so i don’t get in another slump” “so i can see you and hear you”).

tshirts under jerseys, sunrises and sunsets at the beach, finally getting his own place. a well-deserved house party with everyone from japan… them experiencing LA together, warm and friendly and just being boys. streetball and burgers and beach volleyball and seeing who can master surfing the quickest

aokise is so freakin cute like sports anime angst aside theyre very silly boys. i cant imagine how exasperated aomine was once kise joined teiko first string and never shut the hell up about “one more time” cus he kept losing their one v ones

^ this is how kittens fight. they are kitties fighting. silly little baby cats trying to one-up each other and just end up looking ridiculous and stupid and insanely cute as they wrestle

do i think this carries on into their high school years even though theyre separated Yes absolutely. aomine is such a clown and i don’t think enough people point it out. theres art by tadatoshi fujimaki of aomine clotheslining kise and him digging his sandy toes into kise’s ass crack in beach day art. hes the closest thing the kurobas main cast has to an insufferable teenage boy (porn mags and sleeping all day included)

Like. there is just some insanely cute appeal to aokise for me. i don’t care about knb fandom takes on them (frankly i think i would be Horrified by what i’d find) but i just. this needs to be said. aokise as a ship and as individual boys are so catty and fight like kittens from teiko to high school graduation

don’t put them in a room together, they’ll wrestle on the floor. model career be damned, he refuses to lose this. kise’s the one who grew up with sisters, damnit, evading grabby hands is easy !!

last night a friend and i got really deep into the kiritetsu friendship and eventually spiralled into a lengthy conversation about tetsutetsu being not transgender, but the biggest ally in existence

started with "kirishima and tetsutetsu are similar, so theyre both transmen" then decided no, actually, tetsutetsu just had no idea that was a thing

convo highlights:

theyre gym bros. often sending each other post-pump day pics fresh out the shower (there might have been a mention about near- full bush in the pic. cannot confirm or deny)

the first time kiri sent a pic tetsutetsu thought the kt tape he uses to bind was from a very serious injury that kiri didn't tell him about. cue kiri mansplaining chest binding, what it means being a transman, and tetsutetsu's immediate 100% support

kiri is an avid leg day fan. tetsutetsu is not. multiple arguments here that is just gym bro mumbo jumbo to any unlucky eavesdropper

tetsu believes core should be given its own dedicated time slot at the gym. kiri has never once done core workouts on purpose and just loops core into his usual routine (and by letting his classmates rock his shit in training). more arguments ensue

their leg day pics to each other are either shorts pulled way too far up or just. butt naked in the gym. they dgaf. (there has been a number of occasions where they open the message and accidentally flash their friends. response is usually "but hes so built, what the hell !?")

tetsutetsu's transgender learning experience:

kiri introduces the idea to him, explaining only the transmasculine side of things.

(curtains open) transfem monoma, everyone!

tetsutetsu asks people he knows if theyre trans (genuine curiosity. he thinks this trans shit is metal as hell) (literally everyone gets asked btw. no one is safe)

monoma beats him over the head when she says yes and his response is "thats so manly!" and once she (or probably kendou...) explains it to him: "that's so womanly!"

proceeds to say he thought she had a really intense chest routine and thats why her chest was so flat

tetsutetsu asks bakugou and promptly gets threatened in a back alley. tetsu says kiri told him transmasc is a thing, so now kiritetsu are getting threatened in a back alley. its a shared bro experience

after learning monomas transfem and shes not just like that, tetsutetsu fights for his life to not say "hey bro/dude/man!" when greeting her. it takes barely a day for her to get fed up with "hey lady!"

i could keep going, but this is already a wall of text on my laptop screen. i really just wanted to share all these so i can come back to them, cuz i was up until three am with a killer stomach ache from two half daquiris and baconator fries from wendys. i might have cried laughing at one point, not sure

kiyokaga was kiyokaga-ing earlier but of course i didn’t post about it when it was fresh on my mind. now they’re like whispers in the wind in my brain. i have things to say about them but i don’t know what it is i’m supposed to say

it probably has a lot to do with kagami witnessing kiyoshi’s dependability v. shutoku and v. kirisaki daiichi. they’re both powerful so there was a lot of back and forth between them. add in how protective kiyoshi is of his teams and how defensive kagami was against kirisaki daiichi… yknow. thats rarepair scraps

kagami seeing why kiyoshi is a good center firsthand knowing his history of appreciation for strong players? kiyoshi playing center and making point guard decisions split-second, showing why he’s dependable and top second in his position after murasakibara? kiyoshi is, like… the worst breath of fresh air someone like kagami could ask for. how many times has he been smacked on the head by him so he’d cool down????? it’s a relationship built on the oddest sort of trust

i think i’m just talking at this point. i’d honestly have to go back and pick through those two games if i wanted a sound, solid kiyokaga post

@pinkreveluv6 i worry my reply might reach its limit, so here’s my response as to why i like kiyoshi and kagami in a post! :

hmm i don’t really have a solid answer, i just like their dynamic. after szn 2’s first games (vs. shutoku and vs. kirisaki daiichi) where we see kiyoshi in official games for the first time, i liked kagami’s reactions to him. teaming up to block midorima, kagami finally having support on the inside rather than seirin swapping btwn him and mitobe, kiyoshi’s overall dependability on the court. to me they’re two sides of the same coin in a game: kiyoshi isn’t as outwardly aggressive as kagami when he’s playing center, but he’s definitely tough whereas kagami is, from the get-go, very obviously someone to keep an eye on because of how brash he is.

knb generally doesn’t have much one-on-one interaction off the court unless it’s practice, a flashback, or two characters making some sort of pledge, so thinking of kykg interactions off-court is where things get flexible with them. kiyoshi is very much an older brother figure, and i think kagami needs that! of the few people we’ve seen capable of getting kagami out of his head, kiyoshi has been one of those and has done it with the least words (i.e. just patting his head)

overall, kuroko’s basketball has a lot of boys will be boys relationships, friendly or platonic. by which i mean: we see friendships develop through the course of them spending time together, and gradually see everyone become comfortable with their respective teams. kiyoshi and kagami, in particular, have chemistry from defending the inside together and from the aforementioned wordless comfort. i feel that’s something that can easily be translated into interactions off-court.

edit/add-on: from this, you can probably gather there’s not much of them that’s super obvious (as compared to kagakuro, aokise, midotaka, etc.) so as a writer, that = freedom. with popular ships, there’s a lot that has been done already and while any new take on a trope is wonderful, kiyokaga is one of those that’s able to have a first. from having their first AU - worldbuilding, new characters, added traits, maybe even magic - to having their first ficlet tagged lazy morning.

there’s a lot of material that’s not there, and that’s one of the things i like the most.

@zelandiangelo your transfem mura ask is on my mind again, so here’s an idea thats been on my mind a bit lolsies

i think about the miragen and all the different metal subgenres they’d like (pretty sure i discussed it in more detail earlier this yr). recently i’ve been listening to a lot of buck-tick and thinking about atsushi sakurai in particular

and while i don’t think mura would enjoy their style of music as much, i do think she’d like younger atsushi for … numbers of reasons haha

i could imagine atsushi being a big reason behind mura deciding to grow her hair out later in high school (you mentioned her hair growing in the movie while everyone else got the chop ✂️) and reasoning that if atsushi can do it, mura can too

clearly this is before The Realization haha

put simply i think atsushi sakurai couldve been a big factor in her transition! of course this is just me rambling, mashing two of my interests together, but since hearing about transfem mura she lives rent free in my head </3

also, i see a lot of buck-tick fans call atsushi ‘acchan’ which i think is cute and can definitely see the miracles calling her that <3
