Ok so as promised @toadpaws, more photos of my crested echeveria pulvinata! In the photographs 2-5 I’ve rotated the plant clockwise in an attempt to show what the whole plant looks like.
I figured I should write something about the state this plant is in, since it looks a bit sketchy with all the roots sticking out everywhere and the different coloured leaves. I’m sure it’s obvious to some, but I’ve gotten some questions from friends about it before so!
This plant is, as far as I can tell, s t r e s s e d. I suspect that the roots in the soil haven’t developed properly, so it hasn’t been able to take up enough of the little water it has been given during the fall and winter. I think that’s the reason it’s been growing roots everywhere like crazy, it’s severly underwatered.
During the winter this plant was placed under a growlight with a colour temperature around 4000-4200 K for 12 hours a day, which could’ve contributed to the stress. I’m pretty inexperienced when it comes to growlights, so I’m not sure!
Many succulents shift in colour when they’re stressed, and this echeveria is no different. When I bought it the plant was mostly green and a little silvery, but now it’s almost blue, even purple.
As soon as it’s done flowering and has gotten a bit of rest, I’ll do a thorough check of the roots in the soil. I’ll also cut off (and propagate) the normal, rosette growing parts to encourage growth in the crested (weird looking) part.
