Computer vs. Smartphone- The Best Platform for Instagram
Many have a clear preference between the use of a computer and the use of a smartphone. While many users may attribute Instagram to an app used for the smartphone, Instagram also has a website that allows computer users to join in on the fun.
In terms of attractiveness of the various platforms, one may see the smartphone application as the clear cut winner.
The platform for the computer is just kinda boring...
You open up Instagram and that’s what you’re greeted with. It’s not very inviting. One could argue that the sea of white space helps one focus on the photos, but the majority may feel that the white space is more of a copout on the design side.
The platform for the smartphone, on the other hand, is a lot nicer!
This may be due to the fact that the photographs take up a lot more of the screen, leaving a lot less white space.
In regards to accessibility, I would say that once again, the smartphone app trumps the computer webpage!
The menu for the smartphone application, which I have circled in red at the bottom of the image, provides easy, simple access for users to get the most out of their Instagram experience.
This is in contrast to the menu for the webpage on the computer, circled in red at the top of the image.
Yet I will admit that having your “likes” presented on whatever page you are on, as opposed to the smartphone app, is helpful!
VS
All in all, the Instagram webpage is more succinct, with all features being available at the top of the screen (like the search bar, likes, profile). Yet I prefer the more focused platform presented on the smartphone (less white space, different pages for different features, instead of all on one screen).
What do you think?
Public and Private funding
Private funding can be unreliable as its run usually by a family or person with a lot of money that they use to help fund different educational and artistic projects, and their funding application is based on how passionately the applicant is about the project rather than looking specifically and at the projects actual income. Also a private funder will look for applicants who will provide in interesting story from the press to gain publicity. They can sometimes give very large awards, others are strictly for small local projects. They are more willing to source of start-up or experimental funds and also they can be much more flexible in responding to unique needs and circumstances. They can often provide alternative forms of assistance, i.e., software/hardware donations, materials, expertise, etc. They can generally be much more informal and willing to help with the proposal process. But in general there are alot less applications send to private funders than there are to public funders.
Public funding can be much more bureaucratic and they focus on functions usually impacting significant groups in society. They have the most money and more likely to award large grants/contracts. They are more likely to pay all project cost and/or cover indirect costs. They make is easier to find information about and to stay current on project needs/interests. Also application processes and deadlines are public information and very firm.
So in the instance of the Miskin Theatre we would look public funding due to it being an educational establishment, but if all else fails then we’d move to finding a private funder, even though they are historically harder to obtain.
Evaluation
My role in the Christmas show “Alice” was construction. We were in a team of 5 and the show went on for two weeks between the 9th-21st of december. The audience held over 150 people and almost made circular seating due to the seating on each side of the stage as well as the seating bank. The target audience was of family of all ages as it contained child humour with a childish theme.
During the show process the construction team made the set as well as large props either individually or as a team. During this process I learnt a lot about different types of saws as well as different equipment to make different props, also including things like welding, hot wiring and other techniques. Feel that overall the show was effective and reached a large audience, but with more time and better use of the budgets and also increasing ticket sales I feel that the show could’ve been even more effective. For example the set could’ve been made bigger with even more exaggerated and effective features. I think strong elements of the shows construction included props such as the Mad Hatters tea party table as this was one of the props that took a lot of time and effort as well as maintenance. Also another thing that I believe went well was the oversized pram which was simple and non-time-consuming but also very effective. But, I also believe that the show have a lot of weaknesses for example, the Jabberwocky which was a spider instead of the traditional dragon creature was rushed and didn’t look as effective on stage for the audience due to lack of budget. Also the first few shows that were performed to a paying audience didn’t go to plan and weren’t very well rehearsed. I believe that if this show could’ve been recreated in the future I would have changed things such as the time allowance for different props and pieces of set and concentrated more on the details of the props and set rather than rushing them to get them to the deadline. I also would’ve done things like make the mushroom larger so that Alice could have sat on top of it, also I believe that the pram could have had more detail such as a bonnet as well as pink and white lace to make it even more comical and effective.
My overall experience of the show process was rushed although I enjoyed learning a lot of new construction techniques. I also feel like the show became more effective towards the end of the process as it became very well rehearsed for both actors and queues for technicians.
