the mighty nein is about grief it's about losing people you loved and finding them again in your friends it's about losing your home and building a new one it's about giving up over and over but always coming back because it's worth trying again. it's about hating each other until you realize you don't, and forgetting what it felt like to care about someone and being a little bit afraid to start caring again. it's about missing your mom and never knowing your dad and being an orphan by accident and on purpose and being a mother and being a widow and not knowing how. it's about looking back at yourself and wondering how you made it this far and if you could make it this far again if you started from scratch. it's about knowing who you are in this moment, but not any moment before, and not wanting to. it's about grief, and loss, and the things we are willing to do to heal.

ok but i’ve been thinking a lot abt essek braiding caleb’s hair &

man, it just gives me so many feels. it feels really nice to have someone play w your hair, really grounding, & i can definitely see this being something of a thing essek does when caleb’s having a particularly rough time. just coaxes him to sit down, cleans his hair (if it needs it) w prestidigitation, and starts running his fingers through that hair to remove the tangles before sectioning it off and braiding.

this is nice bc they can sit in silence and caleb can just focus on the feel of essek’s fingers in his hair, the gentle tugging as he braids and combs. just quiet intimacy. it could be more, could have a conversation, but it doesn’t have to be. no pressure to speak, just to be.
