A few benchmark drawings I've done so I can determine how much I've improved and what I still need to work on (it's Miku because I love her). I've been studying gesture drawing and anatomy for about a week now, I think I'll take a break and move on to faces (obviously) and things like hair and fabric before circling back around. One day I'm gonna post these as finished drawings, but that day may be months in the future lol

Day 4 of learning to draw and color hair- I think I found a way of shading that I like! I had an (obvious) epiphany that I could just shade hair the same way I shade fur, and that made straight hair make way more sense for me. I also really enjoyed drawing and shading the braids. I enjoy the rendering part way more than the drawing part lol

Day 1 and Day 2 of learning to render hair! I've learned that I have poor hair shaping skills, and that's affecting my rendering skills. I was hoping to use the same base so it's easier to see my skills progressing, but I think it might be better if I do some more practice and then draw a better base. Next I plan to draw some anime wigs I found on Pinterest so I can get my hair shaping skills down.

And then draw more Miku. Because I love Miku. (seriously she's the one thing keeping me from simultaneously being burnt out and having art block send help)
