On that note- I was writing about Kankri’s dynamic with cooler castes in that post and was thinking about how Kankri sort of tries to be a peace keeper. He pretty much said Mituna calling Meenah a Wader is sort of meh in the grand scheme of things, because she’s of course privileged but it’s really hostile to do so and pisses people off so maybe don’t. And than I thought of his interaction with Cronus

So Cronus is Casteist. That’s not up for debate

MITUNA: 1M 50RRY CRONUS: i said shut up. do you havwe any idea vwhat a man of my class vwould do if a mustard blood like you spoke to me this vway on alternia?

This is his response to Mituna ‘ruining’ his chances with Meenah. He pretty openly said if he wasn’t dead and it was socially acceptable he’d kill him over this non issue. That phrase also makes sense as an in universe slur or at least derogatory term to refer to someone’s blood type (compare to the more neutral: gold, ochre, or yellow)

Kankri is off-spectrum. It’s possible/probable that he’s aware that any second Cronus could turn on him and he’d be in a deeply similar position to Mituna. But okay, that’s jumping to a lot of conclusions about their dynamic… Until you read these scenes back to back.

CRONUS: HEY! i thought i told you to stay put. MITUNA: W7HF7F? CRONUS: i told you to stay here in exactly this spot. MITUNA: 1 D1  #D CRONUS: vwell, she vwas gone. CRONUS: meenah vwait… awv man. just like that, shes out of my life again. you had to go and fuck it up for me, didnt you? some "friends" i havwe. KANKRI: Listen, I was d9ing y9u a fav9r. Y9u d9n't need t9 6e dating any9ne wh9 can't appreciate y9u f9r wh9 y9u really are,

So Mituna actually argues with him, stands up for himself. Fights back against what he’s saying and it pisses Cronus off and he turns. This is not me blaming Mituna for him turning by the by. Cronus was already an abusive shit lord. Kankri’a move is to appeal to his ego though. I think Kankri does sincerely believe this is true- most of his dialogue suggest that. But I think another, quieter part recognizes that Cronus is dangerous and it’s best to stay on his good side. (there’s an added layer to this if he’s been culled obviously. Because it’s easy to say he’s not socially aware enough to do that sort of thing… But if he was culled than that little fawn part of him KNOWS the correct response.)
