As much as I really dislike Star Trek Discovery (*mumble mumble hate watching*), I have been struck by the notion to do a TOS version of the Crossfield class starship, playing straight a lot of the elements of the design in the titular vessel that actually serve the whole whirling spinning spore drive gimmick. So! Here's the USS Challenger.
The idea is that this is a mobile research installations, the segmented saucer made up of modular laboratories that can be swapped in and out, isolated or ejected completely. It's very much downscaled from the canon version - only about 400m long - to use the smaller warp nacelles from some of my other ships. The shuttle bay is still huge though, able to hold the scoutship and a considerable number of shuttles.
Obviously there's still a lot of areas to be worked on, but I'm happy with the overall shapes and it is at least keeping me moderately sane while having the kitchen replaced in our (rather small) house.
