Semi-post-apocalyptic setting? Sort of like we were set back in time by a huge war or event but everything wasn’t destroyed, we just didn’t have technology anymore really. Phryne Fisher had two uncles but they were Crowley and Aziraphale. She’d been dating this younger guy for some time, and they didn’t know about it, and he was very concerned they wouldn’t approve because he was just a fisherman. But he was determined to make something of himself. He and Phryne hadn’t even kissed yet though they’d been dating for some time and he proposed to her, and he fully expected her to turn him down but she kissed him instead and he was over the moon. So then he went off to get his stuff in order to sort of present himself to the uncles....then it’s some time later and Phryne comes upon the uncles who are at her little boyfriend’s fishing place, and she’s worried they’ve come to scare him away from her, but they’ve met him and they approve and they think it’s all very sweet as long as Phryne is really in love.

mini fic: Aunt Robin & Evan Buckley

this is for the enabler (aka @swiftiebuckleys) and devil man (aka @panicatthediaz)

When Buck left Pennsylvania he never thought he would be going back. But here he is, 32, and on a direct flight to Philly for his parents 50th wedding anniversary. They were already married with a kid by the time they were both 30 - and here Buck is single and childless. Makes him feel like a failure - the only thing he is looking forward to is seeing his Aunt Robin. His father's sister is a firecracker, always has been. His dad didn't talk much about growing up in Indiana, Robin was the youngest of 6 so by the time she was in high school he had moved out and was working full-time. She was bringing Uncle Steve with her this time too (plus what Buck guesses is a fuck-ton of wine) - Buck had only met his pseudo uncle once or twice, but he remembered the guy being kind of goofy but incredibly good with kids. He has never understood why Aunt Robin and Uncle Steve never got married but that was something he liked about them - their relationship bucked tradition. "Aunt Robin! It's been a while," Buck smothers the older woman in a crushing hug. "Look at you! Little Evan is not so little - bet you drive all girls crazy with those muscles," she says, gently holding Buck's face in her hands and patting him on the cheeks. Maddie comes over too, taking the opportunity to give her aunt a hug too.

"All the guys too! Evan is an equal opportunity charmer," Maddie laughs and winks at Buck as she takes a sip from her wine glass. Buck laughs with her, "Yeah it's a real miracle Chimney even waited for Maddie to show up when I was right there!" --- Aunt Robin is being weird. Not obviously so, but Buck can tell something is up - she has this pinched look that sits just in the corner of her eyes. Buck is very familiar with seeing the same expression on Bobby's face when he thinks Buck is about to do something stupid. Eddie too - honestly Buck just figured it was a dad thing. He's not worried per se, but he realized that maybe his 50-something aunt from Nowhere Indiana probably wasn't super progressive in her politics. Having spent so much time in Los Angeles, he hadn't even thought twice about his and Maddie's little joke about Buck's bisexuality - having a big group of queer friends and coworkers helped too, now including Eddie since he had come out last year. (Buck hadn't been prepared at all when he went over to Eddie's house one night to watch movies with him and Chris, only to find Eddie alone, with a nice dinner on the table. Before Buck was even through the doorway Eddie had blurted out, "I'm gay!" Thankfully, Buck recovered pretty quickly and gave Eddie a big hug. Eddie had still seemed nervous the entire night - he kept opening his mouth like he wanted to say something else but he never did. Buck was a little hurt to find out that he was actually the last of the 118 to be told, but after meeting with Dr. Copeland he realized that sometimes it's the people we are closest too that are the hardest to be honest with. ) And maybe that's why the situation with Aunt Robin bothered him so much - he didn't care what his mother or father thought. They didn't like him even when they thought he was straight. But Robin had always been the one family member that he felt had understood him - thinking that she might suddenly have a problem be she knew he wanted to fuck men? It was more than a little disappointing. --- Buck thinks she might be dying. He can't tell if she is even getting in air between the large hysterical gasps. Plus she's crying a little bit too. Buck wasn't sure how he thought confronting Aunt Robin about her homophobia was going to go but this was certainly not on the list. He isn't really sure how to interpret the gasping breathless laughing that is happening but he is determined to just wait it out. "Jesus fucking Christ Evan, the only homophobia I have is internalized," she says wiping the tears from her eyes. Now Buck is really confused. "Isn't all homophobia internalized? Like it's all in your head - that's where your thoughts and feelings are," Buck is trying to be respectful but he is not really sure where this is going anymore.

"Evan," she says with a serious expression on her face, "I'm a lesbian." Buck can't help the gasp that he lets out - he leans in and whispers, "does uncle Steve know?"

"Uncle Steve has known since 1985," she says laughing again - she purses her lips clearly trying to hold back another laugh, "also he's gay."
