10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished: usually i just keep reworking one sketch until it turns into the final thing, but sometimes i have to start over a couple times when i can't get it to work right away

From a short fic I started writing, based on a discussion @whirly-wind and I had a while back about how Abraham Van Helsing is almost certainly a Fable:

“Ah!” He clapped his hands once as he said it, an exclamation in and of itself. “The new deputy, yes! I have heard much gossip about you, dear lady.”

Molly suppressed a groan and the sudden urge to bolt back out into the twilight, anonymous streets. “And here I thought nobody knew anybody else in New York.”

“New York?” Abraham mused, fingers steepling. “Perhaps. But Fabletown? On the contrary. Fabletown does not much change. The city grows around us and we remain the same, minus a death or a birth or two, from time to time.” He looked up at her, his dark eyes twinkling in the yellow light. “You are change, my dear lady. Something different. We will talk of nothing else, for a while.” Great. “Can we talk about my shopping list instead?”

🖊 + Jodi? Orrrr your favorite NPC from your MOTW campaign

In the very original version of Selkirk, Jodi’s love interest was supposed to be a sort of freelance ‘weapons expert’ in the model of the quirky lady computer hacker that was very popular in ensemble crime shows of the late 00s/early 10s (the era when this whole project was born in earnest.) Character economy and my desire to spice up Grace’s character into something more abrasive and compelling changed some stuff. 

If I were writing Selkirk long term going from hardass character loves soft quirky character to slightly jerky badass loves even jerkier badass would be... interesting, but I’m into it.

♫ + your favorite Tides character?

OH NO. My favorite is definitely Weird Old Grandpa Sayre, but I actually don’t have a really good one for him! Or, at least, not outside some sort of speculative-feeling songs about what we’ve heard about his desire to sort of become one with the world and the elements.

I have a spotify playlist where I stick stuff that gives me even the vaguest PT vibes and I kiiiiind of have Sayre in mind when I listen to Low Anthem’s Give My Body Back, and also somewhat San Fermin’s The Myth, but both those kind of get into my feeling of Sayre not being likely to actually live through the end of PT.

Though, maybe to get real basic and revert back to teenagerhood, Loreena McKennitt’s “Lullaby” works pretty well. Sayre and his weather and time control and anger at the (current) Queen has that kinda feel to it.

14) Write and share the first sentence of a new fic. Just that.

There’s not much new buuuut

Most days Sam would have had his lunch at the desk, but it’s just too bloody cold out and he isn’t willing to risk his fingers while shoveling down lukewarm chili.

15) What's your favourite plotless fic you have written? 

Hm, of the ones that I have published on ao3, prooobably In The Throes or Taking Root (smutty Tom/Five and fluffy 5am respectively). I struggle a lot with plot though, if I’m being honest. I try to craft them all the time and it’s all so wooden u_u I’m still pumping @whirly-wind for information on that front.

17) Past or present tense? Why?

I vastly prefer writing in present tense. I’m not honestly sure why, because I don’t mind reading in past tense, and past tense is a lot more frequently used! I guess it comes back to me really, really liking when my writing feels immersive? Present tense does that in my eyes, it brings the reader into the narrative because everything is happening right now.

18) First, second, or third person? 

I like second AND third person. I am far less fond of first person when writing, I don’t mind it while reading though.

40) Write a 9-word fic.
